Is it possible that putting up Christmas Holiday Decor can span nearly two weeks? How I have dragged it out so much? Bit by bit, I am slowly finishing different spots in the house, but unfortunately, that means there’s been unfinished boxes sitting patiently in our foyer.
I enjoy having multiple trees, decorating the mantels and garland, but the kids most enjoy decorating their own full sized tree. Since I prefer my “fancy tree” with all white lights and fancy ornaments, that doesn’t leave a spot for the colored lights our girls adore, nor the other ornaments that the kids have made, as well as the fun ornaments collected throughout the years, so they decorate their own tree that welcomes guests in our foyer. Unfortunately, it’s two weeks before Christmas and that tree is still to be finished.
I’ll be adding some more magnolia leaves (inspired by these mantels and these Christmas garlands from Disney) into both the tree, mantel and stairway, but I just haven’t finished that yet. (Yes…the schedule has not allowed for a full day of decorating, so I take a few minutes when I can get it.)
My friend, Laura, has different themed and colored trees in each of her rooms. She does a brown, light blue and gold tree in her light blue room,
a fancy gold tree,
and a fun festive red tree. Each tree has matching wrapped presents to add to the holiday decor. Many of the presents are empty, but just decorated so beautifully. She is extremely gifted at typing bows, and takes as much effort in those decorated presents as the tree. I love how it adds so much to the overall festivity. It was total eye candy for all.
It’s about this time when I realize that I may enjoy my Christmas holiday decor well into January. Since I am so slow to get it up, now I just want to cozy up under the white lights for at least a month. There’s something so calming about the ambiance, that I am very tempted to keep white lights up somewhere all year long.
So tell me about your family.
Are you a white lights or fun and festive colored lights kind of decorator?
I love your mantel! We just finished decorating the “kids’ tree.” It has colored lights and colorful painted wood ornaments – each piece has a story. In the living room, I have my fancy tree. It’s ALL MINE, in the true Christmas spirit, yes? 🙂 It is red and gold and glittery and gorgeous with tiny white lights. I am needing some inspiration for my mantel. Perhaps I’ll add lights.
I do white on MY tree as well…The kids have one in the basment that the light color seems to change every year..This year we have red 🙂
White lights for certain, though not on every tree. This year we have a table top tree in the front room to greet guests, and the main tree in our living room for us to enjoy. Daughter has a table top tree, while the pre-schooler has a little green one full of soft ornaments in case he gets a bit more handsy than he has been in years past. There’s a little white tree in my crafty nook (it’s been there since the end of October for inspiration) and several other small ones scattered throughout the house as holiday vignettes. I love the sparkle of white lights throughout winter too, so I keep several strands out after Christmas to run through the china cabinet, or across some twigs in a corner of my crafty nook.
LOVE your photos! Merry Christmas.

WOW!!! Your decor looks amazing. I personally love white lights. My family likes colored so I go back and forth. Right now, we only have one tree in our house. We are currently in a building project and so I’m sure someday I’ll have another tree.
We have red, green and white lights on our tree. Our ornaments are a mix of the boys’ homemade ornaments, a few German glass ornaments, a few vintage ornaments (Shiny Brites and knee hugging elves), some glass icicles and vintage glass chandelier pieces. It’s a very whimsical tree. On our mantel, we have white lights with a couple of primitive, handcrafted Santas and Xmas candy in apothecary jars.
We have white lights…although the children are dying for colored ones.
Such beautiful trees!
Your mantle and trees are so pretty. I am mainly a white light person – but love the colored ones too!
Love your holiday home 🙂 I love everything about holiday decor. I love the simplicity of most trees, but I also love color 🙂 This year my tree has lots of color 🙂 I love it!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful decorated trees. I too like to have lots of decorated trees.

Wow! It’s all so beautiful, Jen! Love that lantern on your mantel (wink)! I’m with you on being slow with my decor AND I absolutely love and adore sitting in front of the white light glow. It’s so peaceful and calming. Blessings to you and your family this Christmas!
@Southern Fried Gal, hahaha…yes, love my Willow House Mantel..free for hosting. So frugal, right? 🙂 I figure the other glass jars were all yard sale and Goodwill finds, so this evens out the total cost. 🙂
It’s all sooo beautiful! I love it, everything is so elegant & glowy 🙂
Well this year, being in a houseful of “men” (husband and nearly 8 month old son) I decided to go a bit girly and whimsical with the Christmas decorations, pink, aqua, red and green. I think I’ll use white lights though. (Haven’t gotten any lights out yet – the tree is a tinsel tree and so doesn’t need them). Don’t worry you are not alone at all in dragging things out. I will probably be decorating up until Christmas Eve. 🙂 But I enjoy the process more than the product actually. Your photos are lovely. Kelly
Love those gold trees! Impeccably decorated! And the matching perfectly wrapped presents under the tree…just lovely! I’m linked up to the tour too if you’d like to have a look!: http://jessicaralph.blogspot.com/2010/12/christmas-home-decor.html
What a beautiful decor!! You really have a knack for decorating!
Your home is beautiful
Beautiful photos and I love your mantel! We have a fancy tree with white lights and a family tree with colored lights and our ornaments collected over the years. I wish so much that the decorations and the season went well into the winter. It’s always sad to think of putting it all away and then facing a long winter.
wow this is just amazingly beautiful.

Very pretty – I especially loved the red tree 🙂 Thanks for sharing
I love your tree and mantle. You are so right about how long it takes to decorate. I love the white lights, but I do have my colored light phase too. My favorite is curling up on the couch, after all the kids are in bed, with the glow of the lights and a cup of hot chocolate. So peaceful! I think that is my favorite part of the holiday!
So beautiful! wow – thanks for sharing
Your Christmas decor is lovely!
Blessings,
Kim
i love all the gold with the white lights!! it just *really* makes it feel special, the way christmas should 🙂
wow what a wonderful tree and that mantle is gorgeous in everyway!! Love it…
summer
I love your mantel! And your tree is beautiful. I have all white lights on my tree this year with silver accents. I do love colored lights though. Our house is really too small to have more than one tree.
I decorate with white lights and I have my fancy tree in our dining room and then one with all our ornaments we’ve collected over the years on our tree in the great room.
Merry Christmas!!
I enjoy the white lights.
Wow… everything is so lovely at your place?? Presents decorated and wrapped but empty boxes?? Wow.
Well, the wrapped presents were actually my friends….the mantel and some tree? Mine. 🙂 I can barely get my own presents wrapped..hahha
Jenn,
Those are beautiful trees!!!! I love your home!!
Your mantel and trees are lovely!
Love your decorating. Amazing with your schedule! Where did you get the white lantern. I know there has to be a “frugal” story behind that one. That’s what’s so interesting about your blog.
I just found your blog and I have really enjoyed reading it. I will be back when I have a few extra minutes to explore it some more. Your decorations are beautiful. I totally understand it taking a few weeks to get it all done. I have already decided that mine will stay up well into January so I can really enjoy all that effort.
Your home is beautiful, I love the ribbons on the tree! Happy Christmas!
