There’s just something about serving food in pretty glass jars that makes me so happy. I bought two cases of brand new canning jars at a yard sale, so this holiday season you can bet I will putting them to work with many of my 50 uses for Mason Jars.
I love the idea of baking pies in a jar. Whether it’s pumpkin, apple, or cherry, I can assure you this pie in a jar recipe will be a hit, both with the beautiful presentation or the anticipation of a special gift.
Enjoy!
My friend, Merissa from Little House on the Prairie Living, shares her story behind this Pumpkin Pie in a Jar recipe. “My grandma used to make the best food but she’d never write down a recipe for me. Finally after several years of begging I finally got her to write down at least her ingredients for recipes. Now that she’s gone I’m so thankful that I begged for some long because now we can keep some of our great family food traditions alive like this one for Pumpkin Pie.”

- 2 eggs
- 1/2 c. cream
- 1 c. pumpkin
- 1/4 t. nutmeg
- 1/2 t. cinnamon

- 2 c. flour
- 1/4 t. salt
- 2/3 c. butter
- 5 T cold water
Instructions
- Mix together the sugars, eggs, and pumpkin. Add in the cream, nutmeg, cinnamon, salt, and mix well.
- Set pumpkin mix aside.
- Mix together the crust ingredients. (It works best if you do this with a fork)
- Grease your jars if you plan on using them or lightly grease the bottom of a pie plate.

Yes, this is another wonderful Simple Holiday Recipe. Don’t Miss a One!
I have never done pie in a jar, but I agree…it is really cute and fun! I use the jars for homemade body scrub….it looks so pretty and festive.
Love this idea! Will have to try soon! Great gift idea for the holiday season!
How do you think the cooking time would be affected by smaller jars, like baby food jars? I have a pumpkin cook off coming up and these could be amazing as single serve portions.
Oh, that would be a SUPER cute, award winning idea. I definitely think it would work, but I am not sure how long the cooking time would be? It would be easy enough to test it with just a few, and just keep your eye it.
What a great idea! I love everything in a jar – so cute.
i think i’m going to do a pie in a jar in the coming weeks. just a fun twist to the tradition!

Is the crust just crumbled on top, or patted on or what – I want to give this a try!
These look divine, a great hostess gift!
Last year I made all my coworkers Apple Pie in a Jar like the photo from Homemade Simple. They were a complete hit and so easy & fun to make..
What a great gift idea for them. I bet they just loved them. I prefer Apple Myself. YUM!
I made these and sent them to my son who was deployed to Afghanistan. Since I sealed them right out of the oven, they lasted a long time and were a big hit! Did cakes as well.
That is SUCH a wonderful idea!!
