Have you heard there’s a football game that starts in one hour?
Did you know that one of the teams is owned by the shareholders and we (well, my dad to be exact) own stock in that certain team (yes, for $200 you can too.)
Have I told you that even though I am now a Southern girl, I was born, raised, married and had our first two children in Wisconsin?
Have I shared that my husband was literally named after a famous Green Bay Packers coach and that he grew up next to a Packer player and babysat for his children and received tickets instead of money (that’s when you could get tickets and there wasn’t a 30 year waiting list)?
Did you know that when Lambeau Field was refurbished, we bought a brick and now the names of our five children grace the premise of that historic legend?
Well, now you know…
and that means we’re kind of BIG, I mean GINORMOUS Packer fans.
So, let’s hear it for some FOOTBALL! GO PACK!!!!
The chili is simmering, dip is made, brats are going on the grill, so now my greatest dilemma of the hour is choosing which accessories to wear. 🙂
We start the fan hood young here… 🙂 AT BIRTH…..
You should see how much Packer paraphernalia we own..it’s ridiculous. 🙂
Love love love it!
We’re all decked out and ready to go here, but I LOVE all of the history and connection you shared here! And the brick at the stadium?! COOL!
Go Pack Go!
Love it! GO PACK GO!
Eileen in Wisconsin 🙂
Thanks for sharing all this. I didn’t know until yesterday that Green Bay was publicly owned. One of my favorite Hokies ~ Antonio Freeman ~ played for them. I don’t have any interest in either team, but I love your enthusiasm. Enjoy the game.
Sorry….Go Steelers! Glad to see such dedicated fans though!
I kept thinking, what does cheese have to do with football…I really hope my guess that the Green Bay Packers are a Wisconsin team is correct 🙂 Further, I hope my future husband either doesn’t like football, or is patient enough to teach me…
This post was perfect timing! I was just thinking I needed to put down the computer, put the chicken in the oven and start getting out the dips I made earlier. Your post is the perfect motivation to get into the kitchen and finish up the food so I am all done by kick off and can actually sit and watch the game.
Hee Hee! Great post! We’re Bears fan, but can easily root for the Pack, as long as they aren’t playing the bears! Looks like lots of fun at your house!
Go Pack Go! We’ve got chili going too. Skipped the brats since the grill is buried under snow.
Wait – was it you that had Packers Christmas ornaments? We’re rooting for your team today seeing as our beloved Pats are out this year! Good luck, have fun all you cheeseheads!
We’re watching this very moment and the Packers are up 14-0!
It absolutely was me with the Packer ornaments? I have a little sports tree, covered with Sports ornaments, but dominated by football ones. 🙂 AND YES – woot…14-0! It’s SO loud in my house, I can’t even tell you. 🙂
My husband was in the Air Force for 21 years and during that time we were stationed in Milwaukee. (My husband was with recruiting service.) During that time, my then 3rd grade son became a huge Packers fan. Although we moved several places after that, he remained and still is a huge Packers fan.
About three years ago, my son became very ill with viral menangitis and the infection went to his brain. He almost died. Although he is left with uncontrolled epilepsy and has suffered some severe brain damage from both the illness and the epilepsy and continued seizures, he remains a true Packers fan. He has lost a great deal of his memories, but not his love for his Packers.
This household is cheering for the Pack!
Oh Pamela – I can’t even imagine going through that. What a mom you are, and even though this is just a football game, it was so special to hear about your son and his love for this great team. I just read this to my husband, and I could barely finish – we were both crying.
blessings and grace to you as you mother this special guy,
Jen
Oh,Pam-bless you all. One of my godsons had viral meningitis @18mos and lost his hearing&balance,speech-it was all a do-over for this “superbaby”. And my heart breaks for you… But he, too loved football, and I was so pleased with the reception my letter to the Browns got-he was one happy lil dude with his signed 8×10’s. I was the event mgr for guest svcs staff at training camp before I “broke”, and evry year prayed “my kids” would be back, the wheelchair babies that I never knew if they would survive or be well enough to come, prayed I would get the waves & smiles of recognition…lost a few, gained a few,and loved “my guys” even more for the love&care these big burly men bestowed on the kids, especially the differently-abled ones. I cried a lot,got teased a lot,and wouldn’t have missed a minute. If you haven’t already, may I suggest writing to the Pack Director of Player Personnel or Community Relations to get him some signed “stuff”? The players are always happy to help. AllGood&Blessings to you-s-
PS-If your son had fave players with the Pack prior to his illness who may have retired? Every organization has active alumni groups, too. Maybe it would jiggle a memory or two? And I wish I could see the joy on his face when he sees “his” team. I know that look, and yes, I would sob. Feel free to tease me,too. 🙂 Prayers are with you all-s-
Congratulations ! So glad to see a team like the Packers win. Betcha there was a lot of hooping and hollering going on at your house!
I didn’t know any of those things! We pulled it off–Go Pack Go!

I am a Kansas girl and therefore a Chiefs fan, but I am also a Kansas State University grad and huge Wildcats fan! Jordy Nelson was raised just a few miles outside of Manhattan Kansas (where KSU is) and played for us. Tonight, a big chunk of Kansas State football fans (and probably many other Kansans) became Packers fans! He truly represents our great state, from a small town farm boy, walked on to a Division I football team before being offered a scholarship (when no one really recruited him) and now, scoring the 1st touchdown in the Superbowl! So, we have now adopted the Packers as our 2nd favorite NFL team!
What a thrilling game!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love those Packers! Kim in Madison
I grew up in NC before the Panthers so I never really had a home team to support. I married a former WI man so I became a Packers fan. He’s been out of Milwaukee for over 25 years but still loves the Packers! We had fun watching the game. My kids had brats on the grill for the first time!
And as a HUGE Bears and Colts fan (hey, as a Hoosier girl, we had to pick our teams very carefully), I say congrats to YOU on the Packers win … excellent game and yes, I rooted for them on NOT the Steelers 🙂 It really was a good game all in all …. Love the history you shared … neat to have something like all that to relate to!
Jen, just to add…Gregg ( and his neighborhood buddies) played football with that former neighbor/packer player in our backyard! This guy would play in the snow in shorts and short sleeves with the neighborhood boys and have a ball!!!! Ask my dad about the grass he never had in the yard for many years!!!!! LOL
Now I like you even more! 🙂 We’re diehard Packer fans, too – and we had a great time last night!
Congrats on the win for your team!
Although I am a dedicated Patriots fan I was cheering GO PACK GO!
I thought of you when it came on the news here in New Zealand!
Congratulations on backing a winning team!
Go Pack!! I am always happy to read comments you make about Wisconsin- my home! It sure is fun to be right in the Green Bay area when all this excitement is taking place!
Love it! My oldest daughter’s first word was “touchdown” – when the Packers scored. 🙂 And our first family photo is in here – http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=356098&id=650779166&l=545e237ab0 – with one of the Packs’ youngest fans preparing for the SuperBowl this year.
Oh my goodness, I had no idea. I’ve been starting my own blog and hadn’t been on here for a bit. I grew up in WI and we had our first 3 (of 4) kids there. I’m now a Texan, but I was SO SO proud of the Packers…we all were decked out in Packer gear! 😉
