This month is going to be fun!
I am officially inviting you to join me for the 30 days – 30 ways Hair Challenge.
A few weeks ago, I casually mentioned at the end of my Frugal Fashionista “Covering the Problem Areas” post that I needed to do a hair challenge. I looked through my pictures, and in nearly every photo, I am wearing a hair style that I spent approximately 30 seconds on, if that, and often, a pony tail. Now, there’s nothing wrong with a pony tail, especially when it’s done in an elegant manner, but unfortunately, a basic pony has been my signature hair style far too often, and it’s time for me to change things up a bit.
I decided to challenge myself to get creative with my hair.
Invest in it a little bit. Care a bit more. Start doing some of the easy, yet cute hair styles that I experimented with years ago when I worked in a hair salon. (Yes, I worked my way through college as a waitress at night, and receptionist by day at a really nice salon, and learned so many fun things.) Somehow, when our first four blessings came in five years, it was all I could do to actually get a shower, let alone spend time on my hair. Now that those blessings are in middle school and high school, (cough, cough) I have no more excuses, right? As I talk with many of my friends about this challenge, they agree they need it too – just some simple, fun ideas to get us out of the rut. So I am going to be talking hair – Hair Style, Hair Fashion, Hair Products, and of course, saving money on hair.
I have received many emails over the years asking me how I do my hair when I pull it back with unique twists, so we’ll do that, since it’s so easy, but we’ll also give ideas for those with short hair as well. Don’t worry, all hair styles will be for those of us who need help. No cosmetology license needed. 🙂
Now just so you don’t think I am in over my head, for the past two Octobers, I have committed to blogging about a subject for thirty one straight days, so I am sure you’d assume this would be the same. Ah no!
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about my quest for balancing beauty and bedlam it’s that I need to set goals that I can actually shoot for and keep, so I won’t post hair things every day or I would never survive the month. I am asking others to join me with guest posts, guest pictures of their fast hair do’s, and hopefully, we’ll even squeeze in some hair product giveaways, as well as a link up.
So, in all honesty, my “30 Days” may stretch out a bit more. 🙂 But that means our fun will just last much longer.
Are you in? Do you need to lose the pony tail? Do you want to challenge yourself to have some fun with your hair?
I invite you to join us on our 30 Days – 30 Ways Hair Challenge beginning in March.
(Feel free to share what might be your biggest hair dilemma. My sweet niece has agreed to help me out with some “expert” advice. Yes, she’s a professional cosmetologist, and is excited for this challenge as well. I just wish she lived by me.
And yes, since you are all wondering, the hair in the blog button picture – mine!! Isn’t it so fun?)
Yes, I definitely need some help in the hair department! I’ve been so frustrated with mine lately. My biggest problem with my hair is that it’s really thick so it takes a long time to blow dry. I get up at 5am each weekday and workout at my gym at work, and I have to get ready there. Therefore, air drying it isn’t an option for me (plus I don’t really like to do that anyway because having the wet hair on my back annoys me). Also, skipping the hair washing is really not an option either because I get so sweaty when I workout. I never it curl it because it’s so thick and soft that the curl falls right out plus I’m fitting so much into my mornings I certainly couldn’t fit in the extra time. Are the any styles that can be done with wet hair to where it doesn’t look so wet? I’ve tried getting my hair cut shorter but it’s still thick and I really didn’t like the look of the shorter, very layered style on my round face.
All that to say, I could use all the help I can get!
Try doing it into a bun or a inverted ponytail or also a plait or two at the sides or back. Tried a hight ponytail or bun or plaited high pony?
HOORAY!!! This is just what I’ve been needing. I’ve been making an effort to start dressing with a more “put together’ look after a comment my 10-year-old daughter made. After mentioning I thought I looked like a slob one day, she piped up, “No you don’t, Mumma. You look like a Mom!” I’ve made great progress on my frugal fashion since then but the hair…it’s either a ponytail or a bun. I’m ready. Bring it on!
What a wonderful idea!!! My hair is getting way too long and desperately needs a summer cut, but I’m pregnant, due in 3 weeks and determined to wait till baby comes before I get it cut. I’m so afraid of having it be too short and get in my way during labor. (I did that last time) Plus my hair is super fine and slips out of every hair style. So I can use any possible tips.
Great! I have shorter hair, chiln-length bob, so I can’t participate in the ponytail discussion, but am trying to grow out my bangs…lots of patience required here. Love the idea of hair tips for all lengths. 🙂
Love the Frugal Fashionista posts, so looking forward to this as well!
I’m looking forward to seeing ideas for some shorter styles. I love my relatively recent move to bob-land, but the one thing I’m finding frustrating is the lack of options…
Look, it’s just hair. Taking a fashion risk and failing once in awhile is not a life- changing experience! Thanks for making it fun.
I can SO use this series! I have fine, wavy hair, and would love to learn some basic, stylish techniques to WOW my husband, myself, and, heck, if I WOW a few other people along the way, that’s just a bonus!
I’m growing out what used to be a buzz cut (which was great working at a camp for the summer… but I miss my long hair!) So any advice your niece might have for styling super short hair as it grows out would be much appreciated!
Yeah Jen – you are a friend indeed, ’cause I’m a friend in need … of a change in my attitude towards my hair! I used to have super thick hair – fine but plenty of it! In fact one hairdresser threatened to charge me extra because there was just so much to cut! With my health struggles it’s been thinning quite a bit – but just last month I had to take some strong medicine and it started falling out by the handful! Ick! I know I have nothing to complain about because I am not undergoing chemo where I’ll loose it all. I am truly blessed that it was just a short term med and my hair will grow back, but it is thin now, and lackluster. I’ve tired of trying to make it pretty so I need some motivation! Bring on the challenge!
I love this idea as well. As a woman with naturally
curly hair I feel like there are so few hair styles
for me to pick from. I don’t have a lot of time to blow
dry my hair straight , but I don’t want to look like a poodle
either. Right now my hair is shorter but I would love some ideas.
Thanks!
I have about 4 or 5 ways I wear my hair and I rarely alter that. I did get some fun clips and hair bands from Lila Rose in the past year and really like having something different. I would a prefer a pony tail every day, but really do try to avoid it.
Try an inverted pony tail to change the style of a normal pony a bit more
This sounds like fun. I’m not very daring with my hair. I never wear buns or twists.
Sounds great! I need options other than my standard ponytail too! I work in a restaurant though, so I have to have it all the way pulled back, so ideas for unique ponytails, buns, twists, etc would be great 🙂
Girl – this will be your series. That’s the majority of what I have so far since I could never really get away from my pulled back hair. 🙂
What fun Jen!!
I”m trying to grow my short hair out, and I’m SO stuck in a rut because there’s not much I can do with it
Three years ago I lost my hair during my cancer battle. My hair has returned and my hairdresser and I have it longer so I definitely need help with how to style it. Prior to cancer I kept it short and highlighted so it’s a definite change. I think this challenge sounds fun! What do I need to do?
Trying something new with my hair today too! I am usually a pony tail or bun girl. I am trying to still have that fast (don’t feel like blowdrying) style, but something different. Looking forward to seeing what things you do
I am sooooooo in. I’m starting to get sick of my “rope” that’s what super hubs calls the 14 inch braid hanging down my back. 😉 Let’s go… I’m heading to the bedroom to dig out my cool hair doo dads right now.
I hope you will cover possible highlights and coloring tricks? i’m too frugal to go to a salon, I just can’t justify shelling out $150 to get my hair hi-lighted. Really would love to hear about that!!!!!! I love updos and there is great ideas on youtube too.
I am sooo excited! I was just looking at some new braids the other day. My biggest dilemma? I have thick, curly hair. I feel like I can never wear it down. And it seems like if I’m gonna braid it, or really do anything much with it, I need to straighten it first for it to look good.
I like this challenge how every I keep my hair short so I would love some tips and advice, I have not colored my hair for at least six months and had grey highlights I was just trying something since it was winter and thought Id try this so havent colored it at first the highlights were nice silver, I noticed that many women look so very nice with the silver hair but now that my highlights are more grey Im going to color it I can try this agan in 10 years I was also considering a perm because of the same hair style so this challenge will be a good way to try something new and see what can be done with short hair so any one with short hair please share and please share your thoughts about coloring hair or letting it go ;silver;
I have a 7 year old with gorgeous shoulder blade length hair. However, she hates for me to do her hair. She has some interesting ideas of how she would like it done – quite a few are out of the box. I love this challenge! I think she will enjoy it too. I cannot wait to get started!.
Oh wow I LOVE this challenge! I am totally taking up this challenge (I wish I’d found this post last year and do it with everyone, but oh well… I’ll have to recuir some of my friends to join). I have long hair and wear it in a boring ponytail 90% of the time. I’ll need to do somepreparation for this challenge and get some ideas what I can actually do with it (that wouldn’t take too much time), but I am very excited! Thank you for the idea!! 🙂
