Today, I finally finished the first round of planting in my garden.
I told myself I could not leave for my weekend women’s retreat until they were in the ground.
(And yes, my goal for this upcoming weekend is to post my yard sale and Frugal Fashionista finds…from the beach. 🙂The reason I added the extra stress of planting when I really needed to prepare for the retreat? Because this overhaul of our garden was done two weeks ago, and those little plants have been waiting patiently on my picnic table ever since.
I have a great gardening post coming up…and as you can see, one that incorporates the whole family. They can be such wonderful helpers, and distractors. 🙂
I thought I would pass along this great opportunity that Home Depot is providing for women. I think the sign ups for this one will go quickly. If you’re not sure of your availability, I would save your spot.
The phrase that got me? “Any sized budget.”
One thing I do invest in on our tight budget are perennials. They are a “forever” investment.
There is nothing I love more than seeing those buds pop out of the ground right around this time of the year. I have been adorning my table with Daffodils and Tulips for weeks. Two of the companies that I have ordered from in the last few years, I am highlighting for you. I couldn’t believe when I saw that Gurney’s was offering $20 off of a $40 order because I just received my catalog and that wasn’t an option. I was thrilled to pass on this savings to you.
Since I partnered with them, I want to make sure that you know I will receive a few pennies on the dollars that you spend.
I have also ordered from Michigan Bulb. I think they are both excellent choices, and you can order in quantity for a better value.
Our raspberry bushes were actually mail order and they are finally taking off this year.
I have been nothing but happy with their customer service, and return policies.
Click the buttons below to browse the deals. I can’t wait to get my order finalized for Gurney. 🙂
I got that catalog in the mail and am happy I didn’t go ahead and order before I saw this.

She is my sweet sister that I have never met in real life. 🙂
I love getting out in the yard. We only plant perennials. I love to do potted annuals and change them out. Have fun on your retreat!
Aaaaaaah….a gardening post! How delightful! My garden is just waking up from its very long winter slumber. I also think perennials and shrubs are an excellent investment. It's difficult & I might add costly to have an entire garden of annuals. Plus the perennials and shrubs tend to add texture and height that most annuals can't do. I'm trying to start both annuals and perennials from seed. We'll see what I get! Gardening is a journey and you'll never know what you get- even if you've done it your entire life!
I’ve built and filled 2 of our raised beds so far! This year we are focusing on fruits and veggies so that we can scale back on our grocery bill. Late summer and fall will begin my adventure in canning and dehydrating, so it’s a year of firsts! I can’t wait to get my berries going … that will be my favorite part.
Thanks for the recommendations–we have been looking for some good companies to buy from We have grand ideas on what we want the outside of our house to look like; this will help!Have a great weekend!
Can’t wait to see your family garden take off! 🙂 I also LOVE to garden! I have designed and landscaped myself (with some help from hubby) our last 3 homes’ gardens and landscaping, and a goal of mine is to be a master gardener one day! I agree that perennials are best for your money, and those catalogs offer great value! Good if you need to landscape a larger area!
How fun…I can’t wait to start digging around in the dirt. We have to wait for another month before we can plant here…but I’ve had fun checking out what’s popping up from last years plantings. Gardening is good for the soul.
Are you saying your retreat is at the beach??? Or that you just have some finds from there? ‘Cause I’d hate to be green with envy tonight trying to lead worship. 🙂 I hope you have a good time this weekend…and don’t stress! Jesus has it under control!
I think Sound Man and I need to plan a trip out your way so we can see how y’all plan your worship services. Yeah. A field trip. I’m liking that idea. : )
I’m just now to “Offering” on the video…I LOVE that song! Have you heard the Christmas version? So sweet!
Oh, I can’t wait to see your gardening post!
Thank you so much for sharing that Home Depot thing! I would love to do something like that!!
I am so happy you got your garden going. Lowe’s had by one get one free 6 inch annuals until tomorrow…. I stocked up on them for this weekend. Home Depot is awesome to have this class.
Cynthia
I’m excited to read about your upcoming gardening post! We are planning our first garden, so I have a lot to learn.
Have a great retreat!
We are getting our first new home in a month and we can’t wait to go out and garden as well.

You inspire – I just went to yard sales today in search of summer clothes for all, backyard pots and a weight bench. Found the weight bench that made my 15 yr old son so happy. Oh and last night….went to Point of Grace concert. I thought, hey, that is Jen up there from balancing B & B blog! Seriously, you and (denise, I think) could be sisters, plus you both sing! 🙂 Hope you had a good retreat from the bedlam..
I love to garden! We are doing 3 raised beds this year and I can’t wait to get my hands in the dirt and harvest in the house! I
