This is one of those times. Yes, ladies, I have done it.
It is with much joy and excitement that I share a creative brainstorm, something that I can Show and Tell.Something that I didn’t steal from another blog. So, if by chance you have already done something like this, and therefore, probably better than I, it’s ok, I am a big girl. I can handle it, and really want to see it.
You see this brainstorm is only the tip of the iceberg. What I am posting took two minutes of drawer digging. (And ten minutes trying to figure out how to take pictures of candlelight on this fancy camera. I still can’t figure that out…sigh). Anyhow, once you delicious, designer delights get your hands on this idea, it will be so fun to see what you do with it.
Ladies…it’s free….and beautiful!
So here goes.
We all have those unmatched stem glasses
that we aren’t quite sure what to do with, right?
(I guess I am making an assumption that people hang onto things like I do…hmm….this could be a wrong assumption. 🙂
Well, for those of you who haven’t quite brought the unmatched ones to Good will yet, get them out.
Examine them, and see what you have to work with –
sizes, shapes, width of the stemware etc.
What candles do you have laying around?
White votives work…..
Or maybe a combination of fall colored candles might be better?
I am trying to stick with the fall theme, and can you believe my entire box of fall decorations are still in my attic? Yep, it’s been one of those months, so I went with what I had on hand in the kitchen. (I am heading up to get my boxes out tomorrow, and then I will have LOTS of fun with this.)
Depending on the size of the cup, you could put decorative leaves underneath, small acorns/pine cones…anything that you might have in your apothecary jars right now.
Yep, you guessed it.
We had candy corn in ours….oh, and did I mention that I got it FREE at CVS…ladies, I am just sayin’ 🙂
Since my mantel is dusty, and I didn’t want to waste all of our precious candy corn before I could refill my jars, I just put in a few for effect. When I buy some more, I will fill the cups almost to the top – too cute.
I am just playing around with the different glasses, and heights.
I think the pumpkin is a fun variation.
Can you see the potential for varying themes over the different holidays?
I obviously wouldn’t keep the arrangement like this since it’s off balance, but I want you to have fun “playing with me.” What works, what doesn’t?
For Christmas, I can envision holly berries or peppermint candies under the glasses.
Valentine’s Day.…hearts, red candles, red beads…..oh, I could go on for hours.
On a dining room table, a simply elegant look would be all white candles on larger stemmed glasses with varying sizes. Arranging these on mirrors with glass beads underneath would illuminate the candlelight in a magical way.
Oh yippee – I am trying this tomorrow for dinner and I will let you know.
Prime Rib, anyone?
The Nester has us all looking at plates in a new way, so why not stemware? The wheels are turning now, can’t wait to hear some of your ideas.
Thanks for letting me have fun with my thrifty new decorating discovery. I hope you enjoy it and have lots of brainstorms as well.
this if for those of you who ask how I do it all.
I CAN NOT!!
This is what I should have been doing while I was taking those pictures –
working on climbing laundry mountain, and sorting clothes for Good Will.
Don’t think for a minute I paid $10 for them…not me. 🙂
(edited to add: I am laughing because I totally forgot this laundry mess was in here for my Show and Tell post…oops. Well, nice to meet you, just keeping it real. xoxo)
Hi Jen,
I by no means was saying you were legalistic. I was just sharing something that we are going to have to deal with living overseas and being in such a different culture…that is all. Alcoholism is HUGE here, but it is because of depression more so than just to go out with friends to get drunk… and I do see this as different with teens. Even though teens do it for depression too, I hope I am making some sense here…. I was just wondering if kids saw it as something that could be done responsibly in the home, then maybe it wouldn’t seem like this forbidden fruit and not see it as a big deal. I know that is a strange thought in many Christian’s homes…. It isn’t here though. I am not sure if I am making any sense… sorry.
And those candles/holders are great!!!
Looks great!!!!!
Love this! Those glasses sure don’t get used for fancy dinner parties at my house – I can use them for that!
I love this. I’m going to have to try it- I think for our Thanks giving center piece. BTW, I like the simplicity that just a few candy corns add. I contacted Carden schools, told them about the English rules poem and they are going to look in the older books for it. Let’s keep our fingers crossed (it was 30 years ago!) Thanks for commenting on my blog.
Gorgeous post!! Love the idea — I’m going to copycat you on this one!
Also, I’ve got a little something for you on my blog today 🙂
Blessings!,
Stacey
love the decorations! I was wondering when do you find time to do it all!
but then I saw your laundry and felt a little better! ps love the boots!
Great idea with the stemware … I may just have to lift that idea 🙂
Make it a great day!
Very pretty – and too easy for words! I have seen cupcakes on overturned stemware, but not candles or pumpkins, so I think this is very original – but a day too late for me! I’m cleaning out cupboards and all my mismatched stemware just went to Goodwill!
Very cute and creative. BTW, Do you have an email address? If so let me know at thesearethedaysarizona@yahoo.com
That was a very cool way to use glasses!!
What a great idea. I often place a plate on top of a glass turned upside down, add a little putty and a small saucer. I place a cupcake on top for a special treat for my children.
Thanks for sharing your S&T.
Ha Ha! I love the laundry at the end of this post! I also love how you used the wine glasses. The different heights look so great with the candles. Love it!
Carrie
LOVE the glasses over turned-I wouldn’t have thought of that! I am a craft copycat too-I can’t think of these things on my own!
Hey friend,
Love the idea and it looks awesome! I got the free candy corns at CVS too, 2 packs, and they were BOTH gone by the end of the day thanks to four little mouths and one big one (mine)! The same thing happened a few weeks ago when I tried to copy someone’s idea so I think I have figured out to delete any ideas that use CANDY around this sweet-tooth household, LOL!
Love ya!
Love the “candlesticks”!! So cute!
Can’t wait to see your outfit with the boots and purse!
Those are so cute!
And I’m so thankful to know that laundry is a thorn in the side of more than just myself!
Great! 🙂 I am gathering ideas for my Thanksgiving table.
I am totally a blog crafter “thief”..I copy everyone and very proud of it! I do try to give them credit if I post it…I appreciate all these creative women.
Now one thing I would never do is…go to another blog and use their blog roll list… Hee hee!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a blessed weekend!!!!

My how easy it is to get LOST in blogland! Seen that commerical where the huge ball of laundry rolls in hovering over the family? Been there, done that! GREAT decorating idea-and boot find! I enjoyed your post today!
Very cute idea! I love it with all the votives!
Manuela
How fun! It’s so great to think out of the box with what you already have sitting around!
And I love the laundry pic because I can OH SO RELATE!! 🙂
I love your creativity!
It also made me feel better to see someone else’s mountain of laundry. (wicked grin)
I’ve tagged you!
I think it looks great and who wants to deal with laundry anyway!!! I have had a load going all day.:(
love your blog- found you while I was on Nester- cute pumpkin decorating and so glad to know Im not the only one with mountains of clothes to climb!!
Thanks for being real! We all, well, most have seen or have those mountains of laundry:) I myself should have been real and shown you the dishes still in the sink and not loaded in the dishwasher while I was gone to a concert and then taking pictures for my blog last night:)
Beautiful post by the way!! Very creative- I will keep this in mind when I am searching for something new to do.

I did a similar arrangement and put the glasses of varying heights in the middle of a Christmas Wreath last year. It was a huge hit. I used different color votives too.
I know people will like your arrangement :0).
Ah, I see you are trying to slay the laundry beast as well…Alas, I fear we are fighting a losing battle, for no matter how much we fight, the beast always continues to grow and grow and grow…lol!
You thrifty, crafty woman you! Looking good with the fall decor & you know I love your designer duds. I think I'll have to do a post about my thrifty clothes finds one of these day. I could get decked out head to toe in some cute outfits too!
those look great! good job!! Kelly
love the stem ware turned over for candles, I do it with bowl and vases to use to serve food on. I need to add more candles in my life
Nope…I think that’s still over my crafting head. How sad is that!
What a great idea and thanks for sharing. I like the way how it looks. have a great weekend!
love love love it……I have plenty of wine glasses!!! uh hum
WONDERFUL ideas – I can see stuff tied around the stems as well – even sparkly wool or pipe cleaners. Strung with beads.. oh Girl you got me going now LOL!
By the way, if you burn those candles down into the glasses and can’t get it out, simply put them in the freezer for a while. When you take them out and rinse them under cool water the wax will pop right off.
Great blog entry, I feel richer for having visited.

Come over from SITS! Those are cute decoration ideas! And those Kenneth Cole boots are cute!
This is the cutest idea, I would have never thought of that!
What a great idea!
They look gorgeous.
I followed you from your comment on Simple Mom. I like your blog! I am hosting a Ghoul’s Night party next week and will try your decorating tip! Hope you’ll visit me at http://www.JustPlainJoy.blogspot.com
very cute. I’ll be glad to see our wedding stemware get some use… and trap the Halloween candy where I can’t get to it! Perfect!!!

How creative was that?! Watch out Nester :)!
And I love that you showed the mess too!–keeps it all nice and even!
Simple and beautiful…can’t get any better. Thanks for keeping it real!

The idea with the stemware is very cute. I think I’ll have to steal that one:)
Love the purse and the boots! Free candy corns….do tell!
I absolutely love the stemware\candle idea! I DO have unmatched stemware, and had never even thought of this! Thank you!
And as for your mountain of clothes…oh, I am avoiding looking out of the corner of my eye at my own mountain! Thanks for keeping it real!!
And don’t forget the bloggy Home School Open House on Tuesday…hope you can join us and maybe even spread the word! 🙂
A wonderful post! You have some great ideas and I think you did well with the camera and the candle lighting.
That is such a wonderful idea and so pretty too! I love when the candlelight hits the glass and the pumpkins underneath are so sweet!
~Kelli
I love the little pumpkins under the glasses. Your harvest arrangement looks wonderful…Kathy
I went to one of our second hand stores today. I bought 37.00 and got 8 pieces of clothes. Every thing was either Ralph Lauren, J Crew, Talbots. I couldn’t believe what I was getting for $3-4 each. I’m mad though. I thought the skirt I bought said “S” in it. It was in with the “6’s” and I didn’t try it on. I got it home and it was a “2”. Gotta go exercise cause that ain’t gonna happen around my waist. Anyway. Great shopping and great ideas. Thanks.
So cute and I love that purse and that black baby Lauren would love that. They are harder to find 🙂 I have to look all over to find ones I like for her. You are to cute and real and I love it!
You are a decorating genius! I love this idea. It’s cheap. It’s easy. Even a domestically challenged person like myself can do it. And I just happen to have plenty of those stemware glasses on hand. Yippee! I’m so excited. Thanks for sharing!
