Yes, I am confessing.
For the last two weeks, I have been a couponing geek.
As part of my recovery, I am confessing it and getting it out in the open.
I carry my coupon binder around, and ponder how I can fit one more thing in my pantry/freezer as a result of my triple coupon week at Harris Teeter.
(It goes through tomorrow so get on out there you SE folk).
BUT, the beauty from this bedlam is that I am not alone in this geek squad.
Some of my friends have jumped on the band wagon with me,
and we are slowly starting to convert other unsuspecting prey.
On Tuesdays, a few of us sit around during our home school group, cut coupons, and line up the best deals around town.
It’s a sickness I tell you.
This week we started chuckling out loud when some of the other moms (who don’t coupon) questioned how in the world we could actually sit for two hours and talk about this stuff.
It was pretty funny, and then my epiphany occurred…coupon geek.
So, on behalf of my dear blogless friend, I am going to share the email that I just received.
And since you don’t know her….I think it’s OK that I didn’t get permission first. 🙂
(Love me anyhow, Rebecca).
Isn’t it so fun to have friends with which to share your crazy obsessions?
Everyone needs a few faithful friends like that, and I have found them. 🙂
OH, it’s good to have girl friends. 🙂
Oh, they’re out there all right. I just got home from HT’s crazy chaos. Thank you for giving the triple coupon alert!!! I still have a rush from saving $102.50!!! Planning a return trip tomorrow. The cashier had to call the manager to ok my order because she said I saved “too much.”
I agree! I’m addicted to couponing… I currently don’t really have any big couponing girlfriends though I’ve converted two friends to the wonders of couponing.
Oh, you are so not alone! I’ve already benefited from your couponing! So thanks for passing on the savings and the inspiration-it’s totally worth it when the cashier looks at your with shock over how much you’ve saved! (oh yeah, the savings are pretty nice too!)
Your friend is funny! I think I would be concerned coupons have become an idol for myself except for some of the leaders of my chuch have asked the coupon savvy members to share the information.
O’ I keep coupons..and that’s the problem I keep them at home while I’m in the store. This doesn’t work so well.
Plus we don’t have great shopping places here.
boo hoo.
I think it is such a wholesome trend coming back in style – love it – my mom coupon shopped when I was a kid and I love that my kids are seeing the value of a dime saved from great grocery finds to dollar deals at the kids clothes consignment store – there is not much that gets your adrenaline up like walking out of a store with a free item… it is addicting and I can relate completely – our shopping ads come out in our local paper on Tuesdays and it is my favorite day of the week – just to sit down by myself and scope for good deals… great post!
We don’t have any Harris Teeters here in N.E. But I have adopted your coupon binder system and the other day a cashier said, “Wow! That’s organized! (I took full credit since I was in too much of a hurry to explain.) I’ve been using coupons again after giving it up for a while. I’m so glad for you ladies down south. You are so fortunate. And don’t cut that prayer time. Our Lord will hold everything for you! Sue
Too funny. But I think I’m right there with you. I’ve been to the grocery store twice during these triple coupon days to make sure Hubby and I stock up on the things we need (and a few things we want too!) And I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been stopped in the store by fellow shoppers wanting to look at my coupon binder and organized grocery list! Thanks for such a great idea!
This “addiction” is the whole reason I started my blog! I think I was driving my non-couponing friends crazy and decided to share my finds on the internet instead. lol.
Welcome to the dark side fellow coupon geek! Looks like you are doing great!
I wish Canada would jump on the couponing bandwagon. Or at least I wish that stores would double or triple the coupons you do get. I love coupons. They are like free little pieces of money. Who could not like that?!
Hi Jen, Great post! I regret that I live in a small town, on weeks like this! Not as many coupon savings stores. I enjoyed your post below, too! Now saving on fashions from thrifty avenues is my thing, too! 🙂 Can’t wait to read this weekly feature! …I just love your blog! ~hugs, Rhonda
Wow! Things in my life are going to move to a little slower pace within the next 6 months, and one of my goals is to become a coupon queen! I know you’ll keep me on track in accomplishing that goal. 🙂
I just found you the other day and just read about your coupon organizer a moment ago. I tried it for a while but usually didn’t even get enough savings to cover the cost of the sunday paper in our large city because the coupons weren’t for things we use/eat. And in the past few years we’ve lost HT, CVS and K-M! I may give it a try again now that I’ve seen your binder. Also, none of my grocery stores will accept printed out coupons. I’ve got a challenge – thanks!
Oh Jen, it definitely is a sickness, but I love it! Once the savings start rolling in it’s hard to think of anything else. I’ve been converting friends this week. My husband couldn’t quite understand how CVS worked until he saw it in action this week. His jaw hit the floor when I only paid $1.32 (tax) and received $13 in ECB, plus had some left over! Now he’s hooked! I’d still like more info about some of your coupon resources you use online for deals.
I have never really couponed. I would ike to. But it does seems overwhelming to start. Kudos to you and your friends.
I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve been out of the coupon loop for awhile now. Up here in the N.E. we used to have a lot of double and sometimes even triple coupon events in the major supermarket chains. No more. I haven’t seen an ad for double coupons up here in years…sad. I used to love it. I do love your binder idea, though. Makes me want to get back into it again!
P.S. Thanks for checking out my blog and leaving a comment. I’m so glad others are reading!
Greetings Jen!
I am addicted! I saved over $88 at HT yesterday, but got so carried away, I forgot they only triple 20.
I used all my coupons, and there was a gracious plenty indeed, thinking all of them would be tripled. ( I could have gone 3 days!)
My mom says not to beat myself up, but oh what a lesson learned! I will indeed NEVER forget the limits again and look forward to posting all my free goodies in the future.
Thank you soooooooooooooo much for teaching me how to make a coupon binder!
Blessings all over you and your family this week!
I am great about clipping my coupons, and organizing them, but not so great at planning to use them!!! I need to be better about my grocery/meal planning. :s
I think anywhere and anyway that you can save money is a good thing. I’d say coupons are a good addiction. I love your new blog layout!
