Last year, my sweet friend Jenny (Southern Savers) and I had a dream. A dream to bring the topics that we are passionate about on our blog, and bring them in real life to our readers. Our desire was that you felt inspired, empowered and equipped to turn the every day mundane into something magical.
What resulted was our first annual Becoming Conference. A weekend designed to bring encouragement, refreshment and tangible ideas for becoming more frugal, creative and purposeful in our day to day lives.
As women, many of us desire to be more intentional with our time and financial resources; more intentional with our family and homes, but aren’t sure how to make that happen.
From personal finance, meal planning, entertaining on a budget, thrifting, home decor, photography, fashion, trash to treasure, and more, our goal was to revolutionize the way we think, not just about our finances, but our homes. If it came to saving money, re-purposing, or creating, we covered it. This year we are expanding even more by including photography, hair, make up and fashion, as well as an optional hands on Furniture Painting and Crafting Workshop that will take place on Friday afternoon (at an additional cost).
As we gather from all walks of life, we will tackle some of those day to day issues that typically seem mundane, and invite you to join us as we create magic.
Becoming 2012 takes place Sept. 21 – 22 in Asheville, NC. Since we are all about being intentional with our finances, the cost for the entire conference will once again only be approximately $100 (based on a standard room double occupancy). This includes the conference fee, three meals and hotel accommodations.
We will not be opening reservations until July 10th, so if you would like to be updated on new announcements and registration info, feel free to sign up for our Email newsletter and Becoming Facebook page, so you don’t miss out on anything. Last year, we sold out the event in the first day, and assume that could happen again.
Please read here for the breakdown of rooms and pricing, along with specific registration details.
I’m so thrilled to share our speaker line up for Becoming 2012. See their detailed bio at our Becoming Conference site.

My $5 tablescape created by grabbing “trash” around my home and turning then into treasures hours before the conference.
Just a peak at the amazing ideas you will receive from our gifted DIY and home decor bloggers.
More inspiration from Angela’s Create. Re-purpose. Redo workshop.
You’re getting excited now, aren’t you?
Sharing a bit about Balancing Meal Time Mountain, cutting the food budget and my Ten Minute Dinner philosophy.
I’m wearing my $10 Frugal Fashionista outfit that I never did put up on the blog.
My wonderful co-host, Jenny, who joined me on this risk taking journey. What a beautiful thing it was, with a bit of bedlam mixed in, of course.
Last year, it was difficult for me to try and summarize what this weekend would look like in a few paragraphs, so I did a quick video describing it. Even though this year’s conference will have so much more, for some of you who are “visual” learners, feel free to watch it to get a taste for what is ahead.
We can’t wait to meet you!
(If reading through email, to view the video click through to the blog.)
I think this Minnesota gal needs to come to this….:)
This, my friend, looks beautiful and absolutely restful. Now, I’m going to have to figure out a way to travel down to your lovely area of the country.
Blessed by you!
Oh, Rachel, I must meet you if you make it to the Becoming Conference! You are such a blessing and inspiration!
Rachel Martin You know we’d LOVE to have you. 🙂 Maybe we could get more chatting time than an airport, although, probably not, since I will be a tad busy that weekend. 🙂
We’re good at chatting in quick bursts, right? 🙂
I LOVED the one last year, but alas, cannot come to this one as I’ll be having a baby Labor Day! Have fun without me!
Robyn Byers Stuber So glad you made it last year, and that is the best reason of all not to come. Although, we do love newborns and you’d have lots of people eager to hold your blessing. Haha
I loved it last year and I can’t wait to come this year!!! It was so inspiring and I am super excited!
Can a nursing baby join in? Or are they not allowed?
Cortney – we’d love to have you both. We had some babies join us last year and all the moms were great about if they started getting really noisy, just leaving the room to settle them. We love babies. 🙂
You would just need to make sure your room mate was ok with that, or you could always get a room by yourself (but it’s just a bit more expensive.)
I love this. I love that it is priced so sweetly! And it is so you – all pretty and fun and frugal!
I hope I can attend! Sounds almost too good to be true. <3
So sad!!! I had a WONDERFUL and REFRESHING time last year but I’m due with our 5th child on the 21st of Sept! Prob not such a good idea to be 3 hours from home if baby is still cooking then 😉
I am dancing … I have been looking for this year’s info sine February!! I can’t wait to come again this year. Now… I just need to make sure I get registered before all of those other excited girls (and guys)… I remember how quick everyone was to sign up last year! I have re read my notes so often! Still trying to implement things that I want to put into my life. BUT without feeling like I am drinking from a fire hydrant! 😉
Joye Ledford I can attest to the numerous wonderful ideas you will receive, but as with anything in my life, it’s trying to take just a few and implement them where the true test to the conference comes. 😉
I. Can. NOT. WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah soooooooooo excited!
lots and lots of love
Oh I would SO love to come to this, but just 4 weeks before that I will have made the trek all the way across TN from Arkansas to pick up my daughter from camp outside Asheville, so I don’t think I’ll be able to do again. Ridgecrest is one of my favorite places on earth! I spent a summer on camp staff there and even (shh….don’t tell anyone) climbed up trees & buildings to get to the top of the building and stood right above those Ridgecrest letters!!! Fortunately it was foggy that night and no one saw us. Have a great time!!!
It would have been wonderful if the dates had overlapped. Last year we did it in August, but it conflicted with so many for last minute vacations and school events. So fun that you have enjoyed Ridgecrest. 🙂 And I won’t tell anyone about the tree climbing.
I absolutely love the idea behind this conference! As a budget enthusiast myself it seems right up my alley, and living in Tennessee it’s not too far of a trip to make for me. Looking forward to getting more details! 🙂
Let me know if you guys need any help. I’m in full time ministry and my role is a conference and event planner. I do a lot at Ridgecrest. LOVE working with them and love serving women. This looks like a really fun conference!
All that to say, I love behind the scenes stuff and would love to help if you need it.
@Kristin S, Thanks Kristin – we aren’t really in a position right now to hire an event planner, but that is completely my kind of job!!
Thanks so much for offering. 🙂
I know the tickets go quickly
But I know I want 2
What’s my next step?
We will put another post up announcing the day ticket sales will open and then just register first thing. 🙂 Either follow the blog or facebook, which is where we’ll let you know. It won’t be till June.
Wow this looks amazing!! I too am a MOPS mom… a community coach too! This reminds me of convention!! I’d love more information and to see if there is a need for parents with special needs children needing support and ideas.
hi Paula – The information is located on the Becoming Conference site. We won’t have the full agenda posted until registration opens, but based on the speakers and topics, you can primarily get the feel for the conference. It’s different though than Mops in that it’s all more “life skill” focused. My sis in love will be doing a session on mothering and I do one on Family traditions but besides that all DIY, frugal, creative topics, and even though we are all Christians, it’s not a “Christian” conference, but definitely with the call to be intentional.
Jen, I would love so much to attend the becoming in 2012 unfortunitly I cant attend personally I was wondering do you video tape them for purshase?? for those who cant attend in person? is there a way to purchase becoming 2011?? Im very interested and especially for empty nesters.
Hi Sandy – We have talked a bit about videoing them, but I am not sure if we are in the position to hire a professional team to get the quality we would need for purchase. We’ll talk about it someone more because I know there is an interest.
Sorry you can’t make it.
