I had the privilege of dining at both Food Network’s stars Bobby Flay and Todd English’s restaurants within twenty four hours. The whole time I thought of all the shredding I had done, and the additional shredding I would have to do to make up for the scrumptious meals that I was enjoying. Well, it was worth it. That chance comes along once in a life. As I arrived back in the hotel room at 11:00pm this evening, every excuse in the world came to mind as to why it was Ok that I missed my shred today.
But guess what? I DID IT ANYHOW, and I can’t believe I did!
I kept thinking of how I would excuse the fact that I broke a promise after only five days, so I stuck the DVD in the laptop and away I went. I know that if I stop, it will be hard to start again. I just know myself, and I really am not enjoying this challenge one bit, but no discipline is pleasant at the time. The wonderful thing is that my muscles feel better after I exercise now. My quads still scream at me, but slowly I am getting there.
How about you? Are you doing OK? Keep at it. The novelty is starting to wear off, but it’s wearing off for all of us, so this is when true discipline needs to kick it up a notch. Stay with me. I can’t wait to see your before and after pictures in just 25 more days. 🙂
Wow, so proud of you for persevering on. Keep it up!
Good for you! It feels so good to get it done, doesn’t it? Keep up the great work!
I recently (2 weeks ago) discovered your site, and I LOVE it! It’s a fun, informative, and inspirational place to come visit. Thanks 🙂
Here’s my shred in a nut shell. I’ve done well w/the exercising each day, but Thursday and Friday were challenging food wise. I didn’t make terrible choices, but they weren’t the best either. Good news is I know I can improve. 🙂 Make it a great weekend!
Very impressive…I might have told myself that I would do the Shred twice on Saturday to make up for it. I am such an early to bed person so 11 PM is like the middle of the night to me. 😉
Yes…I am still in it..I am surprised today is day 6 already. Crazy…I am getting a little bored with level 1 so today is the day I move on to level 2. Scary to think how much more sore I may be after today.
Should be fun to find out…ha! Who am I kidding…
Wow – way to go. I’m getting bored, but definitely not ready to take it up a notch. I just turned the sound off and watched the TV while I did it (with the DVD in the computer so I could see it.)
Today is day 4 for me, and this will be the first time I’ve done any exercise on a Saturday! Seriously, no matter what form or exercise I’ve done in the past, I’ve always let myself take the weekend off… not this time! I do have a weekend away with friends in Oct and I know I shall miss one day, I can do Fri before we leave and can work out on Sunday when we get home, but I won’t have the dvd with me to do a Saturday workout that day.
Woo hoo, Denise. Way to do it on the weekend. It’s only 20 minutes…that’s what I keep telling myself since I DO NOT want to do it today. 🙂
that is amazing! 11pm and at a hotel after an awesome meal would do me in i think. way to go!
i am on day 3 of being shredded and i can barely walk up and down the stairs and fear for my baby if i am carrying her! (she thinks it is hilarious that we go down the steps so slowly and we kind-of “drop” to each one… giggles all the way down)
so thanks for the inspiration and motivation to keep on keepin’ on 🙂
Trust me…it did me in too and the only reason is because I told you all I would. It helps being accountable. That is so cute about your daughter. Tell her to keep giggling.
I did day 2 today! Wow am I sore. I will be taking Sunday off, but starting again on Monday. This is a much harder workout than I thought it would be!
I am on day three… I was thinking about doing a lite exercise today bc I am sooo sore in my legs and abs. However, I think I will just push through the workout!! You are doing GREAT!!! I wish I had that opportunity, it must of been amazing!!!
Jen, you should feel so proud of yourself! A big pat on the back is in order. I’m not sure I could have done that – got motivated to work out that late at night.
I have to tell you, I bought The Shred dvd last week after reading your post about it – I think you were into day 2 or 3 maybe, not sure. I’m on day 4 today, and I can’t thank you enough for sharing this workout.
I am, and have always been, very good about my exercise routine of 4 to 5 times/week – 30-40 minutes of cardio (jog on treadmill, step and kick boxing – alternating them throughout the week), weights and abs. But after doing the same workout for YEARS, I feel it was getting oh so stale! It was starting to be a real chore of fitting in the almost 1 to 1-1/2 workouts at least 4 times a week. AND my weight has crept up the past couple years putting me about 10 pounds more than I really want to be (I think it’s my diet. Lord knows I work out enough!).
Anyway, I really felt like I needed a change and something that would give me the most bang for my buck in terms of intensity in a shorter amount of time. The Shred fits that bill. After just 20 minutes, I’m sweating as much as jogging 3-1/2 miles for 35 minutes on the treadmill – no kidding! And it’s only 20 minutes! I can definitely fit a complete workout in 20 minutes a day, every day. Heck, I think of all the time I spend reading blogs on the computer! ;o)
Sorry for the long comment, but I just wanted to let you know that someone like me who has had a regular exercise regimen for many years is finding The Shred challenging, and that you’ve inspired me to stick with it for the duration.
Keep up the good work, and thanks again for the motivation to try something new.
Carla
i am so proud of you for doing it at 11 pm–it would have been so easy to blow it off. way to go, girl!
i’m bringing up the rear, i guess. i bought the dvd tuesday, got the bag out of the car wednesday, put the bag in my room thursday, took it out of the package friday, busted the cellophane saturday and actually opened the dvd box today. i guess i have to actually USE the video tomorrrow, right?
why am i procrastinating so much for something i know will do me a lot of good?
Yay Jen–go you! I did day 6 of the Shred on Saturday, and took today off (as planned). I want to turn some music on now while I do the workout, to make it interesting! 😀
You are great! I am on the 30 day shred in 40 days program! LOL I missed a couple days this week, but today I jumped to level 2 and it kicked my rear – I will be back on level one tomorrow!
