Over the last few weeks, I’ve turned up my Frugal Fashionista purchases, but have only shared them on Instagram and Facebook, so when Jergens asked me to share some of the spring outfits I’m most excited about wearing, I knew this was the perfect opportunity to show you what I’ve found at my local thrift stores.
Last week, I was fairly certain that spring would never show it’s pretty little face, but then the sun popped out on Sunday. Feeling awfully sporty with my new $5 polka dotted dress, I paired it with my Tanger Outlet statement necklace and turquoise earrings for a comfy look that I love.
One of the questions I get asked most frequently is something along the lines of “I never find anything good at our thrift stores. How do you have time to find hidden gems amidst all the hundreds of clothing pieces that don’t work?”
Well, my strategy for this past month lines up with my Frugal Fashionista post: Zebras, Stripes and Dots, Oh My, but you’ll have to watch my video below to hear some of my tips. Plus, you’ll get to see a few additional pieces that I scored during my Polka Dots and Stripes Fashion Haul.
It got a bit chilly, so I threw on a brand new Nordstrom’s Jacket (with tags) that I scored for $5.
A white jacket and white cardigan sweater were two of the items that I had been searching for this month, so it was great to get this crossed off my list.
Both of these shoes are adorable, but it’s always fun to see how different styles can really change up the look of an outfit.
I don’t know if I am alone, but my poor legs and arms had gotten quite pasty over the winter, so this last month I decided to try Jergen’s Natural Glow moisturizer. Unlike a lot of their counter parts, I was pleased to find out it’s given me a very subtle, healthy glow which has been great in sporting my new spring dress.
(I hate mirror pics, but it’s the only one I have showing the belt.)
When I purchased this dress, it was missing its belt, so I used one that I already owned. Both a black and a white belt look really cute with it, but it would be interesting to know what it originally came with. Any guesses? Most likely a thin, black belt?
I just knew I was onto something with my Polka Dot Fashion Haul theme (watch the video) when I saw my sweet friend, Edie, sporting her own polka dot summer dress. Yes, we know our fashion trends. 🙂
And for those of you wanting to see the necklace from the video up close, this was another Tanger Outlet Clearance steal.
You might want to sit down for this reveal.
These fun finds were only $2/piece at Rue 21.
I know, I know. The cries of injustice are echoing through my screen.
Remember my “Whose laughing now” story?
Yep, both the bracelet and the necklace were part of that accessories haul. It’s amazing to me just how much a great necklace can dress up a simple white t-shirt, and because of that, I honestly am of the mindset that investing in these pieces is worth it. It can radically change your outfits by using core wardrobe pieces you already own.
But if I can get one for $2, then who I am to resist? That just means I have a bit more in my budget to allocate towards other treasures.
What fun fashion finds are you on the hunt for this spring? Are you up for trying something new?
When you wear that perfect outfit, you look and feel radiant. With that in mind, Jergens Skincare wants to know your style.

GREAT photo on the NEW porch!!!:)
GREAT photo on the NEW porch!!!:)
beautiful porch…beautiful lady!! 🙂
You look great!
Love the polka dot dress on you! Tres chic! And the flower sandals are so adorable!
My style is very classic, except in the summer, when I do anything I need to stay cool in Louisiana!
Girl—you look great!!!!
I may be repeating myself…there are two places to enter a comment and not sure which one is correct! Anyhow, my style is an attempt at minimal French chic tainted by my tired mama lifestyle. 😉 I am searching for the perfect black ballerina flat. Haven’t found it yet. Perhaps with $250 I could!
Love it! I would pair the skirt with a concert/graphic tee shirt to work around the house/run errands or a tee shirt like the white one you are wearing for a night out — like you, I live in skirts in our hot CA summers, and the older I get the more I like to try to look a little more put together than I used to. I would say “funky Parisian” would work to classify my style — classics styled like your crazy Aunt Fifi might do it. I also love the floral sandals, and envy anyone who can manage those without going end over tip. Also, swooning over the porch.
I love the dresses you picked up, especially the halter dress! I’m not sure how I would describe my style! I have a mix of casual, sporty and bohemian clothing. Mostly (when I’m not at work) I’m a jeans and tee shirt or sundress kind of girl, but I like to dress them up with accessories like scarves or bold earrings. At work I wear business casual attire but I’m wearing clothes from 10 years ago to work and their style reflects their age! I’d like to start adding more classic, timeless pieces to my wardrobe so I can have pieces that have morre versatility. I’m also on the lookout this spring for colors that actually compliment me, not just colors I like. I have too much blue and gray, I’ve been wearing those colors for years. It’s time for brighter colors!
Love your blog!
You have more self confidence (if that’s what it can be called) than anyone I’ve ever met.
oh, don’t let a video of me talking clothes fool you. I really struggle with so many of the same things we all do and just take it day by day.
I must say that over the years I have become fairly good at bargain hunting, but I stopped short of actually shopping at Goodwill. However, following your advice, I have begun stopping in at Goodwill looking for something specific. A couple of months ago I was looking for a grey sweater and white button down shirt. I found the sweater–exactly what I would have picked out in the store, and a brand name no less–on the first try. I didn’t find a white shirt, but a blue one, which worked out just as well. I found the white shirt a couple of weeks later. I just went in today looking for a new dress and I found a perfect one for so much less than I would have paid in the store! Thanks for the advice!
YAY! So glad to hear that. 🙂 And on the first try, wow, impressive. 🙂
I am a traditional dresser so most of my clothes are simple and I add pops of color with scarves or jewelry especially necklaces etc I inherited when my Mom passed away.
MY STYLE IS ECLECTIC ROMANTIC BOHEMIAN
My style is mostly classic, with a touch of quirk. Thanks for the opportunity.
I would describe my style as casual and classic. I am on the hunt for the perfect pair of white capris but right now they would blend in with my winterish legs! I’m on the hunt for some Jergens now. I would like to be more trendy but am having trouble establishing style for my age that’s not too old nor too young? Very difficult.
Hi Jen,
You’re my fashionista guru. It’s hard to believe you are the mother of five. This is the reason I keep coming back and reading. Not only are you thrifty (and smart!) but look beautiful in the process. Keep up the great work.
