Dear sweet friends:

I have a reminder for you today.

If today is one of those days when you can barely keep your head above water with the daily tasks and “to dos” looming long and large, take a deep breath, slow down, and just put one foot in front of the other.

We are in this together;  this swirling turn of motherhood, of work, of nurturing, of launching, of empowering, of overwhelmed living.

Beauty is found in the simple moments;  joy found in the embracing of the hour, of taking one day at a time, even when an entire week attacks at once.

So when I wake to a sink full of dirty dishes piled from the day before, even when I’ve committed to clearing the sink daily for my Clutter Countdown series, there’s grace and perspective.

I’m thankful for the sink that holds those plates, the food that’s crusted to them, the blessings that ate off of them, and the warm water in which they now soak.

When I eye the muddy, paw laden door that was JUST cleaned hours earlier, I choose gratitude.

Not because I’m grateful for those jumping dogs that I can’t train, but because it’s now a reminder to choose my attitude.

So I’m grateful for the the way the sun peeks through at just the right time garnering perspective that He never changes. He’s set the sun on course and this stability reassures me that He is the same yesterday, today and forever, no matter what challenges lie ahead.

too much wash to do

When exhaustion sets in, and all I want to do is hop back in bed, pull the covers over my head, stick my fingers in my ears and pretend that life stands still for this moment, I get up and make a choice.

It’s all about perspective, isn’t it?

Are we choosing to take a step forward out of duty or delight?

Sometimes, it’s both, but today I choose utter and exquisite delight. Delight in the small things, that are always the big things.

Delight in my kids and their mistakes, huge mistakes, because I know we’re alway  in process. Delight in my messy house because it’s where life happens and where we live it large. Delight in my husband because he loves me no matter what and finally delight in my own inadequacies because it means my Savior is the only one that fills those never ending gaps.

Won’t you join me and use these moments to reflect on that reminder and give yourself grace?

We do have a choice.

What will you delight in today?
