I remember the first time that I popped a Chocolate Oreo Truffle in my mouth. I was awed at the deep rich goodness. When I found out that only three ingredients were involved, my heart did a little pitter-patter.
Oreo Cookies are a family favorite, but actually creating them into a Cookie Truffle is a recipe that must be printed and made – often.
My daughter decided to take the plunge last weekend, and make them all on her own. There’s something special for a mom to taste the labor of your daughter’s creation, and then share it with you. Please note that when a twelve year old makes such a delicious treat, perfectly smooth chocolate is not the goal, but isn’t it wonderful to know that it doesn’t have to be perfect, to still be a complete crowd pleaser. Initially, she was sad that the chocolate wasn’t perfectly smooth, but we had a great discussion about enjoying creativity in the kitchen, without it needing to be perfect.
We served these to my mom’s group and not one complained. 🙂
There are so many creative ways to change up this recipe by using different flavors of cookies, and make them perfect party ready by drizzling white chocolate, sprinkles or any kind of pretty food adornments. I’ve used vanilla “oreo” cookies, peanut butter cookies are delicious, but of course, good ‘ole Oreos are our children’s favorite.
Recipe: Chocolate Oreo Truffles
Summary: This Chocolate Oreo Truffle Recipe creates a divinely rich dessert with only three simple ingredients.
Ingredients
- 36 Oreos plus a few extra if you want to garnish the tops of the cookies with a few cookie crumbs
- 8 oz package of cream cheese
- Box of Bakers semi-sweet baking chocolate – 16 ounces (or chocolate chips, but once melted roll them quickly)
Instructions
- Crush Oreos in plastic bag or blend to fine crumbs in a food processor.
- Once crushed, mix Oreos with cream cheese until smooth.
- Let this batter chill for about one hour. We made the mistake of leaving the batter on the counter once until it was room temperature and it’s very difficult to roll. The batter breaks easily in the chocolate. Chilled dough works much easier.
- Dip balls in melted chocolate.
- Place cookies on wax paper lined cookie sheet and refrigerate.
- Serve cold.
- Makes 40 little balls or 20 larger ones.
There are a variety of ways to roll the truffles. My daughter used her fingers to roll and dip. You can tell that it leaves drips this way. If you want picture perfect looking truffles, make sure they are very cold (or even slightly frozen) Use two forks to lift the truffle and dip in the chocolate, or use a toothpick to stick into the individual balls and then dip in chocolate. If making a large batch, dip half of the dough while you keep the remaining truffles in the freezer until ready to roll in the chocolate.
Preparation time: 15 minute(s)

I’d love to hear in the comments how you have changed up the variety of this simple recipe. What various cookie/chocolate combination have you used? I am going to try Nutter Butters and chocolate next, followed by Fudge Mint Oreos. YUM!!
Yummy.. I’ll have to make these to take to work on one of our potluck days..
We make these truffles every Christmas! I dip them in white chocolate (almond bark) & drizzle them with dark chocolate. The white chocolate gives a smoother finish, and different taste.
