Since I didn’t take “before” pictures….AHHH…what was I thinking, just know that these candlesticks and frames were green – yes, booger green, and should have been disposed of long ago.
BUT, I am so glad that I am a procrastinator…just for this instant. Learning that spraypainting brass is so simple has revolutionized my home decor.
The candlesticks look brand new, and I spray painted ten more….just because I could….and I had lots of spray paint.
Now, the last few thrift stores that I have gone into, I have looked for ugly candlesticks marked at $.25 – $.50 just to paint them a myriad of colors.
*edited to add…I have a rule with the quick spray paint projects..no sanding allowed.
I just took a regular old $1 bottle and went to it. I was shocked at how well it turned out. I may have used the indoor/outdoor kind, but it’s already been thrown away,so I couldn’t double check.
So then I went on to this fake, shiny, chunky brass candle holder….
Yes, looks like new…..loving it….
And we all have some of these old brass frames, right?
Yes, this was my hubby and I’s first Christmas, and I do believe that picture has been in this frame since then. Well, look what happens….
Yes, for you observant ladies…it’s not the same frame, but it is the same exact type of frame (remember, I forgot to take the “before” pictures?)
When I was shopping my house, I decided to redo my mantel…all in whites….and there was one spot where I couldn’t find just the right thing, so I whipped out the paint and made this into the perfectly “right” thing. 🙂
Instant gratification.
(I know I am tired when I just typed a brand new word….
and it sounds correct…
Satisfaction + gratification = gratifaction, right?)
This week, I will show you my whole new white thrifty mantel redo…such fun knowing that I love it and it was done with all yard sale finds. 🙂
Now off to bed.
I have been gone today, Sunday, from 7:30am to nearly 9:00pm without a jaunt home, and I bushed.
Good night sweet friends, and sweet dreams thinking of all the new yard sale finds that are right around the corner. It’s almost spring time…are you making a list of your “must finds?”
I LOVE spray paint-and my glue gun! I can’t use spray paint right now-too cold. So I have a stash of stuff to spray paint come spring. I did use my glue gun, though…
Can’t wait to see how you put it all together!!
FABULOUS!!!
Can’t wait to see where these end up!
OH, so pretty!!!!!
Suzanne
I love what you do with spray paint!
I can’t wait for it to warm up so I can get to sprayin’!!! Your redo’s turned out fantastic!
Cannot wait to see the mantel redo! I love instant gratifaction (haha).
~Amanda
I am SO needing a thrift store spree! I have a coupon for $$ off spray paint! : )
I am so ready for garage sales!! You did awesome with all of these, what a difference!!
Okay – question. Remember this falls under the ‘the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask’.
Keep that in mind… okay?
Um, do you have to sand or prime them? It seems like paint and metal would mix. How do you get it to stay?
And where do you spray? Outside?
I’m a spray paint wanna be. You, Kimba and Nester are killin’ me with all your craftiness.
I just love using spray paint on makeovers. My next ‘project’ involves glue…if I can just find where I put it! I love your beautiful ‘new’ frames and candle holders. Can’t wait to see the mantel.
Hey, I just highlighted you in a post about frugal bloggers at Blissdom. Let me know if you met someone who blogs about frugality that I missed!
Thanks.
It looks lovely! Hmmm . . . wondering if I have some spray paint somewhere in my house . . .
Fabulous, my husband says that I was born with a can of spray paint in my hand. You are so creative.
Cynthia
You know I love that spray paint too!! I love making those transformations myself. So glad we have those kindred spirit friends in bloggy land. xoxo
Those look great, Jen! Rhoda has also gotten me hooked on black spray paint lately. We are re-doing our powder room, and I have been spraying black all weekend. I also found some of the "Rub&Buff" stuff Rhoda talked about (ACMoore) and rubbed it on the black to make it look a pretty coppery color. Pretty! Maybe our room will actually match this time!?
I’m waiting for it to warm up, I have a pile of stuff waiting to be reincarnated as something “white semi-gloss” I hadn’t thought of candlesticks though, I’ll have to add that to my list (which as of now includes a stool, a shelf, and some frames) Can’t wait to see your new mantle-scape. I just redid mine with some not-so-thrifty items from hobby lobby and I’m still not satisfied 🙁
Thanks for visiting my blog and for your comments…come back anytime.
Love your candlestick idea…will have to try it out on some old things I have in the basement.
Love it all! Especially those brass frames painted white. They look great!
So timely, as a few days ago I picked up some brass candlesticks at a thrift store to spray paint!
I think I’m doing mine white, and gluing white plates on top to make small cake stands! Will blog those and now I will think to take ‘before’ photos : )
DANG WOMAN…you bring SMART to a whole new level. I never would have thought of shopping my own house. Now you KNOW I’m going to be rumaging through old boxes the rest of the day! Thanks for the brilliant inspiration!
Great job Jen! :o)
Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne
I LOVE all of those….you did a great job! Spray paint rocks!!!!!
I would never have thought of doing this! I have a lot of brass candlesticks put away in a box, and I thought I’d never use them again! You may have just given my brass candlesticks new life! They thank you! laurie
Love the transformations! They definatly look so chic. I spray painted black a brass lamp I had and wow, what a difference! Love your blog!
I need to get more spray paint, great post
Oh, yes, my must have list grows every day in anticipation of garage sale season! Love your finds, great job with that spray paint!
Love the spray paint. I’m like the the haz mat guys on MOnsters Inc.
Its a 24-19, 24-19. Anything not moving is getting sprayed.
Cute stuff! I love finding stuff I already have too. I am in the middle of spring cleaning right now and have found some fun things to move around the house. Can’t wait until I am finished though!

Oh no – now you have me looking around my house, wondering what I can spray paint!!
It all looks GREAT, Jen! I threw together a white mantel tonight too, super quick before company came! 🙂 I’ll have to go take a picture and post soon. Kelly
Nice work! Looks great.
You have an award over at my blog.
Yaaaaaaay Jen! You are becoming a spray paint pro! I’m so proud of you!
Spray paint is my favorite…looks great and can’t wait to see it all together…

What I love about spray paint is in 2 minutes you’ve got the look you want. I sprayed the barn stars in my guest room yesterday and I love them, also every framed on the wall…I can’t imagine how hidious the room would look if it weren’t for spray paint.
Ya gotta love spray paint! Can’t wait to see the mantel. I’m putting a lot of white in my living room, so I love new ideas!
You are the best! Love a great spray paint re-do!! (especially love the no sanding rule!!)
blessings,
kari & kijsa
What a hoot….we think there should be a new book…."If You Give a Girl a Can of Spray Paint" {instead of ….give a mouse a cookie….!!} We will have to stop back to see what your mantle is like….you've got us curious now!!
Karla & Karrie
Looking good! Spray paint and glue guns are at the very top of MY list!!
Great idea for that out-dated brass!
Isn’t spray paint the best invention 🙂 I’m a addict to paintin’ I’ve even got a spray table set up (pretty much permantely) in my backyard!
How fun…what would we do without a little spray paint in our lives!!!
Thanks for sharing 😉
Smiles and blessings,
kayellen
Can’t wait to see the finished mantel. All you girls are so brave with your spray paint. I’m getting there! Thanks for the inspiration.
I just spray painted my first frame about a month ago. It wasn’t as easy as I thought. I had some drips and such. Guess I need more practice! Candle sticks huh… 🙂
Oooh love the new blog look Jen! I’m glad to see someone else who has a passion for ridding the world of all things brass, ha ha! Honestly I held my breath the first time I painted on brass. I think since my mom made such a big deal when I was little about how nice brass things look. But I got over that and have been on a rampage ever since. Way to go, your projects look great. Can’t wait to see the mantel!
-Hayley
Wonderful!!!
Oh my gosh! I have that exact brass frame with a photo of my hubby’s grandma in it. I will be painting that soon! I also have candlesticks that are ugly brass. Those will be painted soon too! Yay! I hadn’t thought of painting those. Thanks!
Where is the how to do it. Can’t find. I need step by step instructions.
have you ever tried painting vintage brass deer?
Not specifically a brass deer, but I do paint brass often.
Check out this post for visual from lamp I did.https://beautyandbedlam.com/painting-brass-lamps/
