You all know how much I love my Saturday morning yard sales.
It was quite an adjustment when we moved down south and garage/yard sales went from being held all weekend long, to finding out that they are held only on Saturday mornings in NC.
It was a blessing in disguise for my balancing act of time management.
I can have so much fun in just a few short hours on a Sat. morn.
Above I found a set of four gorgeous place mats for $.50/piece.
I LOVE the colors, and they look great under my $2 bird cage.
This tall glass apothecary vase was $2 – with the sand in it. 🙂
I am on the hunt for milk glass of any kind, and was excited to find this set of eight grape vine pattern glasses for $5. Typically, a bit more than I would pay, but I wanted cups to use for my kitchen.
You already saw that beautiful fabric that I received for free,
but here is some more.
I actually received so many beautiful pieces I just want to gaze, and gaze.
You all gave me some great ideas in the comments of the last post – I can’t wait for some free time to put some of those into action.
I must look like someone who loves fabric (or they feel sorry for me when I tell them I want to learn to sew, but have yet to take the sewing machine out of the box) because another woman gave me a HUGE bag full of other fabric pieces totaling about 8 yards.
I think I need to get going with some raga muffin garlands. 🙂
Now for a more practical purchase.
Do you remember when I went to work organizing my pantry for my stockpiling?
Well, I confess, I have another storage area under my stairs that gets even worse than my pantry. I wish I would have taken a “before” picture.
You would have been so proud of my progress today (Sat).
My goal for this yard sale season is that I must find a place for everything.
This is such a challenge for me since I find so many amazing things, and I know that I will use them “eventually”. Well, I bought this organizing system for $3, came home and put it right to work storing some more of my triple coupon treasures.
But then I remembered this…my nemesis. The thorn in my flesh.
The “blue thing” (yes, it has a name) that sits right in my laundry room, side entryway, and is the holder and keeper of all things disorganized. As soon as you open the door, it scream chaos reigns.
Not to mention the wonders it does for attracting dog and cat hair as well. Just lovely.
And then there is this issue….SHOES!
“But mom, I put my shoes on the shelf. ” ERRR!
But back to my point… guess what treasure I found? It was going to store more books, until I had a delicious brainstorm when I walked through the door.
The BLUE THING went outside, and in came this!
Now because I promised I would find a place for things…the bird cage went on top, with one of the new place mat underneath. The green Pottery Barn organizer that I bought for $1 is going to house “what nots.” I am going to search for similar style baskets and do something amazing to them, but for now these will have to work. Doesn’t it have such potential?
But the best thing ever about that $1 wicker basket is this…
SANITY!!
My 5yo is notorious for never being able to find her matches. She gets this big old basket all to herself, and you should have seen her face light up at the suggestion. She knows the tough time she has, and she just was tickled that all her shoes were in one place.
Imagine that. 🙂
Did I mention that the book shelf was $5? Yes, FIVE DOLLARS…not as good as this best ever $5, but I’ll take it.
Should I admit that these were not the only treasures that I found?
No, I didn’t finish my photo shoot. We snagged a few more frugal fashionista items, a Titelist golf bag for my son, a beautiful vase, brand new Hooked on Math and Hooked on Phonics sets, 2 lollipop cookie molds, a few books, and some other what nots. Whew – that was quite the day.
Have I told you how much I love yard sale-ing.

You have inspired me to hit up yard sales this season. I need a lot of furniture and that is the best way to get what I need.
Sadly, this weekend was a bust. It was nothing but junk everywhere. The only promising thing my husband and I came across (he likes going to) were some Levi’s he could wear to work. He tears them up quickly (construction type job) but they wanted $7 and $10, no thank you!
I’m still inspired though and will continue to search till I can find a dream piece!
Yeah! yard sales!!!!! YAY! What a great deal on that bookshelf! I still haven’t solved the shoe problem! 🙂 Jen
Jen, you’ve got me hooked on yard sales! You should’ve seen the wild look in my eyes when my husband asked me if I wanted to hit up a couple yesterday. I found some treasures, and it got me all excited for yard sale season, which is officially upon us! Woohoo!!!
AWESOME finds, especially that beautiful bookshelf!!!
Jen – I hit a city wide this weekend. Got a $30 pair of Robeez shoes for my baby for a grand total of $1. I use Avent bottles and got a lot of them (7 bottles, 4 nipples, 6 lids) for $5 (minimum of $40 value) and a host of other ‘treasures’! I love garage sales! I can’t wait to hit a some more!
I cannot believe it was $5.00! You are one lucky woman!
Oooooh Wheeee!!! What finds this weekend 🙂 I love, love the milk glasses. And the book shelf? Holy moly!! I need to start yard saleing. How do you find the good ones?
Great finds! Looks good! I found a couple good yard sale finds this weekend as well…have to love the Spring for this very reason! 🙂
P.S. I clipped coupons and thought of you tonight…I am going to make a binder too…you are a couponing diva!
I love yard sales! After roaming around thrift stores all winter I am ready to do some yard sale damage control. My local Goodwill is horribly over priced – I once found a box of sidewalk chalk there that had the Dollar General price tag still on it – for $1. Guess how much Goodwill’s price was? $1.99! Yeah, my point is – I want some good – cheap – yard sale thrills! As the weather gets warmer I see more and more – but haven’t actually gotten out there yet. Maybe this weekend…
I love all your finds…and love your blog. Thanks for stopping by for a visit. Come back soon.
I am going to have a “card box” giveaway every month. This drawing will be the last day of April.
Every comment you leave throughout the month will enter your name in the drawing, so if you visit several times and leave several comments, you will have a better chance to win. This NEW blogger was so touched by all the comments I got on the Blog Party, that I decided to make this a monthly GIFT…
Also, if you link to my blog telling about the monthly giveaway, you will have your name entered 10 extra times…How is that for an incentive?
I was so blown away by all the responses that I wanted to email each person personally, but TIME… just has not permitted..but I did love reading all of them..I am continuing to introduce my family members and then there will be some fun blogs coming up from Disney World in May. I am so thankful for all my new friends.
When, when will it be warm enough for these people to get out the yard sale sign?
I’m actually in the process of getting ready for one of my own (if I can ever get it together.)
Maybe that might be a great post for you…”the best kinds of yards sales. ever!”
or something to that effect.
It would help us yard sale shoppers look for the best sales, but also help get the sellers a little more organized, too. If I sound like I’m trying to get valuable information from you…you’re right. But it really might make a great post:D)
I have been going to garage/yard sales for the past 2 weeks and have found NOTHING like your treasures! But I have not given up yet. So far, the best place for me is Goodwill. Oh, and your baskets, I have bought some of the most gorgeous baskets at Goodwill – cheap – why are people getting rid of clean, beautiful baskets?! Oh, well, hope they keep on doing it! Linda
Oh what great finds!!!!
What great deals! I’d love to go yard saling with you if I ever come up there or you come to Charlotte.
awesome makeover, im sure im late sayin that, design chicky is my gurl yo!! she did a great job love it!!
I love yard sales!!! I cannot wait to go to one. It is still a little cold here for them. LOVE everything you found! That bookshelf is great!
wow those are awesome finds! i love that bookcase. i would have snatched that up too!
Such great finds!! And I love all of them! 🙂
Again… getting a little weepy over the fact that NC has great junk and AZ has junk junk. Out here in the west we have to have a good 10 pace gun fight to claim good junk… just doesn’t seem worth the effort since I’m a poor shot. Ahh… the milk glass. We don’t have that either… dagnamnit.
I Love garage sales!!!! Our sale season is just starting but in the next couple of weeks it will be fun force and I can not wait!!
Sooooo fun, Jen!!! Can’t believe the price on that tall apothecary jar WITH sand! 🙂 The bookshelf is fabulous and way to go getting rid of the blue thing. I love those wire drawer organizers and have two myself from ikea that I use for linens and workout clothes. $3 is a GREAT price. That wicker basket for a buck is fantastic too and yea for you helping your little one. Kelly
I was giggling to myself as I looked at the picture of your shoes. Ours look just like that and it always takes us FOREVER to get out the door becasue of finding shoes. I’m going to organzie them now. Blessings!!!
just curious…on average, how much do you spend at yard sales every week? Does it vary? Do you give yourself a set amount to spend? Just trying to figure out (for myself) how to not go “overboard” on weekend sale shopping. Both possibly buying and spending too much. How do you stay in control of that?
Thanks!
Kim
Wow! I’m coming down there to go yard-salin’ with you! I love your decorating, too!
PS, I thought my bedskirt was the #1 attractor of pet hair, but the Blue Thing has surpassed it!
Ooooo, good stuff, Jen! I got some good stuff too & will post later this week. My fave has to be your blue bookcase, so cute!!
we have a few more weeks until ours will be in full swing. I’m going to have one this year as well!
Great finds, Jen! I started noticing the yard sale signs last week. I thought about you.
I am so jealous! I finally got to go to the yard sales on Saturday, and ours were horrible! I came away with 4 shirts for myself and a few books for the kids, but no wonderful treasures!
You found some AWESOME stuff! I am loving the shelf!
Woohoo! I found a tricycle for $2 for my older daughter on Saturday and two dress-up outfits for ten cents apiece. Not much else…didn’t see much this weekend. It’s hard doing the sales with a three year old and a one year old…sadly, my husband does not share my love of yard sales. 😉
I just adore your blog!
🙂
Good yardsailing finds! I just can’t get up early on the weekends to go! By the time I’m up and about everything good is gone!
Manuela
ugh… I am so jealous!! I can’t wait for garage sale season to hit here in northern michigan!! The snow is still flying here and so garage sales don’t really start until closer to Memorial day, so I will have to live through your great finds for now!! Thanks for sharing!!
-Rachel
Love your finds! Yes, I agree… a post about “how to yard sale” would be great! My strategy is to visit the high-end neighborhoods. In the fall I got some great deals that way! But I haven’t done much yard-saling in recent years… I am inspired to do more… guess I need to set aside some extra cash for that! Blessings!
Honey, you need to come to Mississippi! We have yard sales Thursday through Saturday and sometimes Sunday!
I am sad that my next few weekends are already busy and I can’t go yard sale-ing! : )
I just started reading your blog, and you got me excited to start garage saling again! It’s been years. How do you find such great sales? Do you stick to certain parts of town? Do you have a budget? I’d love to know more of your method! Bargaining? Do you shop early? or late? and for clothes- do you try things on, or just know what size you wear in different brands?
I wish it were warmer! Us Michiganders have to wait a little while – and I’m just itching to go! Although I will say that I’ve never come across your kinds of finds (*trying not to be jealous*)…maybe I’ll try nicer neighborhoods this year and see what we find.
I just love the colors in the placemats and fabric! And the basket, bookshelf and $3 organizer….ok, officially jealous, lol!

My grandma has those same white dishes. She said years ago you could buy grape jelly in those cute little dishes. We now use them whenever we eat fruit salad.
Awesome! Thanks for linking up!!
That is a great deal for $5. I looked like a maniac for bookshelves and I couldn’t find anything so cool. 🙂
Wow, what a difference! Love the blue shelf, it has great moulding details! I am all over the color too. Bet your little girl was tickled pink to have her very own “spot”.
~Misti
LOVE the hutch that you found for $5. I went and read the post about it…but couldn’t find an after picture of yours. Did you end up painting it black?
I wish my yard sales were half as good as yours, there’s just something about people in az, they never have anything fun.
Wow! those are some great finds.
Milk glass is my new collecting item.
Have a great day!
Darlene
That bookshelf is amazing. I love it, the color, the curves, it’s beautiful. Great find!
You got some AMAZING stuff! I need to start checking my local yard sales too. 🙂
The shoes in the picnic-style basket is my favorite thing EVER! What a great idea.
xoxoxoxo
I LOVE that bookshelf! The color is amazing…and $5?! Who was the crazy person that sold it? Good for you!
Girl, you and I are cut from the same mold! I consider myself a garage sale diva, I think. I LIVE for Saturday mornings! I blog about my fantastic finds all the time. Can’t help myself. It is so EXCITING! Looks like saleing is pretty good there in the South too!
I, too, look for milk glass and find it everywhere, cheap. I have a huge collection (100s)- ALL from garage sales.
Yeah for garage sales!!!
I love to yard sale, just don’t always have the time. And of course I clicked on your best $5 yard sale find link and am sitting here green with envy!
