Forever, I will declare my love of a good morning cup of coffee. Starbucks brewed fresh in my coffee maker saves me hundreds of dollars that can be used for other things.
Yet most days, I always have a little bit of coffee left over. For years, I’ve just dumped the coffee out, but now I pour it into our ice cube trays for an amazing iced coffee.
The first time I ordered an iced coffee, I assumed that something special was coming my way for the price I paid. I was sorely disappointed, and thus my own frozen drink mixes were born.
Often, by the time I got to the end of my drink it was too watered down for my taste. So whether it’s an iced coffee or my own “frappuccinno” mixed in our blender, the watered down problem is now solved by using these fun coffee ice cubes.
Brilliant!!! What a great idea. Blessings!
LOVE it! I’ve gotta buy some of those heart trays!
So simple and CUTE!!! How fun would that me for a girl’s movie night?!?
You can also use left over coffee to make a chocolate cake. When you make a “box” chocolate cake, add coffee instead of the required water. If you don’t have enough leftover coffee to use then just add water to it to make the measurement come out right. You can also use coffee in chocolate frosting too.
What a great idea! And I second what Brenda said…makes a great cake.
Oh Brenda – you have just reminded me of one of my fav cookie recipes that I haven’t made in forever…using coffee. 🙂 Yum in the choc cake…that would be amazing.
What a great idea, I love the heart shaped ice cube trays! I bet you found those trays somewhere for a good deal. 🙂
I always have a bit of coffee left over too, and I like to put it in a glass and put it in the fridge for a late afternoon iced coffee. If it starts off cold it doesn’t water down as much, but I like your idea. I’ll have to get some cute trays!

Ha ha – you’re right. I got them at a yard sale, but I think you can find them very inexpensively at probably a TJ Maxx or Marshall’s type store. Regular ice cube trays work just fine as well, but making them pretty is just plain fun. 😉
@Jens, you can usually find them after the hliday clearance sales. i bought mine at Target after Valentines. 25 cents for a 2 pack.
I have recently been making iced coffee. I made some for my hubby Friday and he didn’t care for it because it was too weak. I suggested to him that I start freezing left over coffee in ice trays. You just confirmed it for me! I like your cute hearts.
Iced Coffee is my favorite beverage of ALL TIME! I love Vanilla Iced Coffee… and I create mine similarly! Thanks for this post! I am loving those hearts! 🙂
How cute are those “coffee cubes”! : ) I love a treat every once in a while (a very SELDOM once in a while), and I do splurge for a venti White Chocolate Mocha with a shot of caramel, but most of the time it’s too much (my eyes are bigger than my stomach) and I have a little left over. This way I can freeze what I have leftover to make my own stuff later! : )
Nice. Now I won’t throw away that half pot of cold coffee. 🙂
Will you share your recipe for your “make at home” frappuccinno?
I love the heart ice cube trays, and thanks for the reminder, I used to do this all the time and completely forgot about it.
What a great idea! I regret how much ‘old’ coffee I pour down the sink, now I can use it.
So cute! You can add left over coffee to chile. I know it sounds strange but trust me add coffee, coco powder (the real kind), beer and balance out the flavours!
So cute Jennifer!
Cool idea(pun not intended)☺
I have saved the coffee for desserts. But this will definitely stretch my coffee farther. Since my favorite coffee is NEVER on sale or have coupons.
You wanna know the trick to making iced coffee that’s not watered down? Double brew it! Just use half the amount of water that you would with a normal pot of coffee, but the same amount of grounds.
I used to be a starbucks barista – just a little trick of the trade! 🙂
At Starbucks they use half the amount of water, put it in a pitcher and then add a little ice.
Such a good idea! I am so freezing my left over coffe from now on.
Yeah! I throw a cup down the sink each week. I am starting this tomorrow. Thanks for sharing.
