…why you buy it from someone else, of course!
You truly didn’t think I would be giving out decorating tips on bedding, did you?
I stop at the fashion and decorating with spray paint tips, but I do have a few gems to share with you about what I have learned this past year.
1. Did you know that people spend 1/3 of their lifetime in bed?
2. Did you know that many people change out their bedding each season?
3. Did you know that people paint their room based on a comforter set?
4. Did you know that I had no clue how expensive some of these sets are selling for?
Well, I have come a long way since I poured my heart out over my bedroom bedlam,
and in keeping with the theme of making my home a haven, I am actually swapping out my bedding today.
Yes, today I am changing out my cozy, winter down comforter from this…
To this….soft, light and ready for the summer months.
I am one who is very content to have the same comforter for years. I never even thought about the fact that people might change their styles based on the seasons until I started reading blogs this past year.
So when I hit the jackpot at this amazing yard sale last fall, I started practically hugging the woman. Yes, I did!
She was completely redoing their guest room and she had everything up for sale. She told me that only one person had ever used this set! WHAT? And she was redoing it?
Well, as much as I wanted to talk her out of this wasteful spending, who was I to step on toes? I gladly took them off her hands.
The quality in this set is unbelievable and the original price…you don’t even want to know. This is the same woman who sold me the $449 Pottery Barn living room carpet for $5, if you want to guess.
She sold me the 4 throw pillows, down comforter, and 3 different dust ruffles for $7.
Now, here’s the neat things that happens when you shop thrift with eagle eyes. Do you notice the cozy flannel “matching” sheets in the right picture? Those were NOT included.
I found those at Good Will two weeks later. I know…it was a God thing.
I love when that happens.
So now, we’re on to my summer theme. I just love this coverlet that I found at Goodwill for $5. It makes me so happy when I gaze at it, and depending on the lightening, it takes on different looks. The details are beautiful. I don’t see them made like that any more (or at least not for $5). 😉
The large yellow throw pillows also came from the Guest Room lady, and I am trying to determine if I want to stay with the dainty, white accent pillows, or put a little bold in black.
And if I going to continue on the transparent theme, I would love to show you the bed all made up, but the sheets are in the wash and I completely staged these pillows for this post. 🙂
I confessed that I have come a very long way since sharing my bedroom bedlam, but to make my bed twice in five minutes, just for a blog post? Love you all anyway. 🙂
So what did I learn about finding the perfect bedding?
Realistically, many of us dream of having that cozy haven. We would love the chic designer look, but practically, it’s just not a priority in our household budget.
Well, once again, if you search with eagle eyes, you just never know the treasures that lurk when someone is redecorating their guest room.

Oh! Love these Friday posts 🙂 I, too, have picked up some great sheet sets at garage sales and our $5 summer comforter just went on the bed, with hubby and I both smiling as we bought it together at a rummage sale a few years ago 🙂 Thanks for sharing! ps loved the post from before (I am a new reader :), so what a delight to see you keep it real. Your door knob looks a lot like mine 🙂 ~Connie
Jen, you've totally been inspiring me since I found you a couple of months ago. Check out some of my recent finds on my blog! I picked up some fun stuff today, but you should see what I got LAST time! Weeeee!
(Today's post is called The Friday Haul 6/5)
Love the bedding — all of it! I have scored with tons of great bedding at GW and Yard Sales. Just yesterday I found awesome stuff to redo my daughter's room…again!
My mom has found great bedding at yard sales too.
She's like you–content with the same bedding for several years, but won't pass up a deal if it'ss something she loves.
Beautiful bedding!
I love the bedding! We have a quilt on our bed made by hubby's grandmother. She is no longer with us, so I should probably display it and not use it. It's so beautiful, though.
I don't know how you do it!!! 😉 Love your finds. I was just thinking this morning that I'd love to redo our bedroom. I have a gorgeous white coverlet, but haven't used it in 3 years due to children. I've been wondering if I should just go ahead and get it out…the girls never get on the bed with shoes…hmmm. Now you've got me thinking. 😉
Oh, Jen…….I hope I don't ruin my computer with all the drool that just splatted all over it. I want a Pottery Barn lady in my neighborhood!!! What a deal…why don't you just have her put you on her speed dial and what you don't need, you can sell to me!!???? I love both sets, but especially the red……ooh la la, girl!

check out the frames i am selling on my blog!!! 🙂
Well, I don't have any tips on buying at yard sales or Goodwill, but I do shop, sometimes for months, before I find exactly what I want at the price I'm willing to pay. If it's going in my sanctuary, I have to LOVE it. No, make that lurve it. : ) I have a post ready to go all about that subject. Thanks for the reminder!
Love those linens, by the way! Beautiful!
I've really started looking around at op shops & garage sales since I started reading your blog. Thanks for sharing! I didn't know people changed looks with season, but it sounds like a fun thing to do!
I lovelovelovelovelove your new summery bedding! It's just beautiful!!!
Beautiful bedding! It makes me want to go out and find some more!
I'm back from a long blogging break and just wanted to come by and say hi! 🙂
Okay, seriously, I want to go shopping with you. I was inspired by you to go to Goodwill, and ours has nothing like what you find!! You find such great stuff!
And the bedding is beautiful!
Hi
I am so glad I came by.
You had quite a blessing.
Way to go !
Everything is so beatuiful.
Thank you for sharing the fabulous photos.
Have a wondeful weekend.
Blessings
Wow! What a deal! You were definitely in the right place at the right time. You inspire me to get up early tomorrow. 🙂
The yellow is really pretty. I need some $5 bedding!!!
~Kim
Gorgeous! Now, maybe your readers can help…I have the measurements for our queen sized bed, but if you go into Savers or GW and the size is not marked, how do you tell? Garage sales are easy…you ask 😀
Beautiful!!! I love your colors… kind of like mine. I know you are all big-time, and all, and don't need any awards, but I just gave you one on my blog! Thanks for being an encouragement to me. Blessings!!
Great finds!
What perfect timing! Yesterday I was thinking that I could actually change out my comforter set, which looks wintry, for something a little more light and airy. I'd never even thought of seasonal bedding before. Now I read your post and it all makes sense.
Love the look and, seriously girl, I want to come up there and go shopping with you! God's hand of favor is definitely on your shopping trips!
I love your excitement over finding great deals! A friend of mine redid her bedroom and gave me her "new-to-me" set. She confessed later that it all totaled over 600!!! I just can't even fathom spending that much. What a lens that would buy. LOL
Have a blessed Saturday! BTW, when are you inviting me up to go yard sale crashing??
😀
PRETTY!!!!! I really like them both. A lot.
Wow, great garage sale score! I never see cool bedroom stuff at sales…it's always old 70s or 80s looking horrid floral. However, I did get a high thread count king set of sheet for $9. Love that.
I'm impressed. You done good! 🙂
Hi hun! I had fun catching up on your blog posts! You've been busy!!!
Happy SUMMERTIME to you and your sweet family!
🙂 Les
I have been searching for bedding for months! I have some things that I like, but I haven't found the "one"! I'm also waiting to re-paint, until I find some bedding. Now that I'm done with school, this is one of my projects for summer.
Let me know if you are ready to sell your bedding!
What a good yard sale find. This weekend was terrible. I wish I could find a guest bedroom lady!!!!
Cynthia
Simply beautiful bedding. How lucky to have found the matching sheets!
Toni
Aren't you lucky? It's so beautiful! I'm also one who doesn't change out things for the seasons. Not much space to store everything. My mom used to change out her kitchen–she had 3 or 4 sets of curtains, table stuff, etc.
I think ALL of the bedding is really beautiful! What great bargins!
Excellent bargins for such lovely bedding! Fabulous Finds! Bravo!
Tina
Oh, wow. Can I move in? Or have you decorate my bedroom? Or can I have the address of that lady so I can prowl around her garage sale next time she's tired of her new "look"?
I know how much these things cost. I love bedding and you my dear did really, really well and it is all so lovely. Happy Thrifty Monday!!!! xo Joan
Absolutely lovely transformation!!!
I love every one of those pics. I would have a hard time choosing which bedding to use. If you check out my Thrifty post today you will see that I had some good luck at a lady's garage sale. She was changing out her living room and clearing out some stuff in storage. The only problem I discovered was that I missed out on some great stuff, including a black and tan king duvet set, shams, skirt, with two matching huge black pillows and two matching throws. I felt like crying when the lady in front of me got the whole set for $20. Between that miss and your great bedding deals, I now have a new mission next weekend to see what I can find.
You really got a great bargain. More like a steal!! I love both looks and would love to see your entire room! Hint hint! 😛
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 🙂
I love the idea of having a "warm" and "cool" look. I think I must need a better Goodwill…people around here keep all the good stuff 🙂
Wonderful post – I am also the type who hangs on to a comforter for many, many years. However, this year I changed out my bedding – got a whole new set and a whole new look! It completely rejuvenated my room. Now all I need is a new accent pillow and the look will be complete!
Wow – that is beautiful. You got an amazing deal.
I really love your bedding!! And what a great price (that goes with out being said huh?)! Don't you just love when God turns your head to a great buy like that?
I am like you, I don't mind having the same bedding, I usually buy what I like and won't buy until it is just what I want and try to get it as inexpensive as I can. Not always possible, but I sure try! :o) Anyhow, when I began reading others blogs and seeing a lighter bedding for those warmer months, I too was inspired. I use to have a duvet on my bed and then would fold it up at the bottom, currently my daughter has all that bedding. But will keep my eyes open for another one!
I have missed blogging so much and not as much time to visit. It was so nice to drop in and read your blog this evening!
Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne
Love the inspiration!
Blessings,
Marie
