i wrote a seminar on aplogy and i focused on the same things you did. i changed the script a bit, so everything started with an "A"- easy to remember:

apologize
acknowledge
amend
avow
ask

We recently finished studying this in my Masterworks class at church. It brought about some great discussion among the class members and the families involved. Thanks for sharing.

Jen, thank you for this post. It's very timely and much appreciated. I'd not heard of this book, but I shall look it up now.

We make so many mistakes. We often need forgiveness. And while God understands our apologies no matter how we offer them, our fellow human beings need to be know we're sorry in ways they can understand. This really does make perfect sense. And yet I'd never thought of it in quite this way. Thanks for the guidance.

So interesting! My husband and I have a heck of a time with apologies. Not that he's one of those men who refuse to apologize. Nope, we have the opposite problem. He apologize all the time, for everything! And after a while, when we're having the same fights over and over (and I'm hearing the same apologies over and over), it gets old and loses any effect it may have had in the beginning. BECAUSE - here's what I learned from your post today - I'm a #3 kind of person. Even though I wish I wasn't, I'm someone who needs restitution. And repentance, but that's a whole OTHER issue when it comes to marriage and bad habits and communication and BLAH.

Anyway, thank you for this post. I have read the Love Languages book but didn't know about Apology Languages. Lots to think about! (And another book to put on my to-read list!)

Thanks for sharing this, Jen. It's very helpful. I'm dealing with a strained holiday relationship right now and trying to sort out some things. While I honestly don't feel I have any apologies to offer I am trying to decipher what exactly the Lord would have me do. I think I've allowed a particular situation with a family member go on for far too long without addressing it head on and now I'm not sure how to do that the proper way. I want to do it in the way that will honor the Lord and the other person while making boundaries abundantly clear.
