Thanksgiving Turkey Cake (Fun for Kids)

As adults, we all covet our Thanksgiving Day Pumpkin Pie and Dutch Apple Pie, but do the children enjoy those traditional choices as much as we do?
I know when our children were young, they would always pass on the Pumpkin, and just ask for ice cream with a side of whip cream.
Why not try something new this year with this adorable Thanksgiving Turkey Cake?
The best thing about this Turkey Cake is that it’s so easy, and the children will have a blast decorating it. I always want to encourage kids in the kitchen and this recipe could become a new Thanksgiving Day tradition that enables them to “help” in the kitchen, and feel a sense of comradery, without “getting in the way.”
The beauty of this recipe is in the decorating of the turkey, there’s no
real recipe. Yes, I am going to admit that it’s ease is in using a box cake mix (that we get free with coupons, of course), and store bought frosting. (Shhh, don’t tell. The kids really don’t care.)
My friend, Bonnie, introduced me to the cute idea of using a bundt cake pan as the base of the body. Make box mix as directed, and let cool. Frost the cake with chocolate frosting and use Twinkies as the feathers, frosting those as well with white frosting for contrast. Fill the whole of the cake with a frosted cupcake to simulate the head (or use a cut up Twinkie). The Tootsie Rolls, along with Peanut Butter M&M’s adorn the top of the legs. Isn’t she so creative?
Give this Turkey cake a try this week. Your young (and young at heart) guests will thank you.
Another fun, kids can help, recipe on the appetizer side is this Turkey Cheese ball. If you want a really fun Thanksgiving appetizer, try some of these Best Cheese ball Recipes ever. They whip up in minutes.
Do you add in any special recipes just for the kids??
