Coffee prepped, bags filled with magazines, snacks, water bottles, comfy clothes on and patience as long as the day – yep, I am definitely a sports mom.

Over the last few months, I have spent untold hours at the football field. There’s nothing like football season to cheer on our guys, but I am going to let you in on a little secret (shhh, don’t tell my boys), I am SO excited to be moving in doors.

In the last three days, I’ve watched over 12 hours of basketball games and it’s no longer just watching our teen boys, but now I get to cheer on our 14 year old daughter as she plays her first year on the JV basketball team, and it’s a blast! Those girls can do anything they put their mind too.

As much as I love the crowd and the anticipation of the big game, it’s not the fan favorites or the big games or the cheering that makes me appreciate the game of sports, it’s the camaraderie paired with life lessons that makes me proud. Everyone loves to win, but honestly, winning is easy.

It’s in the losing that true winners show up, and one of the things I most appreciate in our daughter is her unbelievable attitude regardless of the win or the loss.

Her attitude remains unmoved. She stays true to who she is in defeat, as well as victory. Whether in soccer or basketball, she shows up, works hard, doesn’t give up, and encourages others. It’s for the love of the game, the love of team, the love of working together for a common goal and

I am so proud of that!

When Verizon invited me to share about their “FiOS Football Girl” who shows up her brother with her football savvy in a series of You Tube videos, I knew we were the right family for that. FiOS is the technology that empowers you to be part of the game, and in our home, that is pretty critical. Our girls put up with lots from their three big brothers and they are tougher because of it.

For years, the harsh critique states, “You play like a girl.” Well, bring it on. What does it really mean to play like a girl? Statistics state that girls who participate in sports have better grades, higher self esteem and are healthier than girls who don’t. That’ why Verizon and the Women’s Health Foundation want parents to share their daughter’s proudest sports moment.

So go ahead, honey.

You play like a girl because our girls knows how to rock it!!

Verizon FiOS gives your family the connection and speed you need to play with the big boys. Share your proudest moment of your daughter’s athletic achievements at www.verizon.com/playlikeagirl. You could be chosen to win a grand prize valued at $5,000!
