One Month of Reality Cooking – real time, real budgets, real life

Feb26

You read it correctly. Welcome to Reality Blogging – in the kitchen, that is.

Beginning March 1st, I invite you to  follow along everyday as I share real time, real life, and the real budget of how I feed our family and friends well on a budget. Yes, this will be the nitty gritty, in’s and outs…of living life to its fullest (good, bad and ugly.)

Honestly, I can’t believe that I have agreed to this bedlam, but it gets even better. I’m not doing it alone.

That’s right…3 Moms, 3 Kitchens, 31 Days.

I’ll be revealing the specific details on Monday, along with the lovely ladies who are taking on the challenge with me, as well as how we hope to encourage you in the day to day grind of meal making.

For now,  I am trying to get a few culinary items in order by taking on a little  freezer cooking this weekend. (Yes, my son has complained that I’ve been lacking in the substantive dinner department this week. icon smile One Month of Reality Cooking real time, real budgets, real life

So yes, 31 days of sharing my kitchen with you all will be…ahh…interesting, but I think I am up for the challenge.

For this weekend’s bulk cooking, I need to focus on some breakfast items to cook and freeze. We’ve been eating way too much of my $0.50 Super Doubles cereal. icon smile One Month of Reality Cooking real time, real budgets, real life

1.I have been coveting my Copy Cat Cinnabon Rolls again, but I don’t think it’s good for my waistline, so will be decreasing the butter content a bit.

2. Easy Homemade Waffles

3. Make Ahead Freezer Mashed Potatoes
4. Chili to eat this weekend, chili to freeze
5. Double pan of lasagna
6. Ground beef, cooked and frozen into separate baggies

I’m not tackling the world this weekend because it’s a busy basketball tourney time, but I will be tackling the world for 31 Days in March, so check back for all the details…

This might save you some time today:

Have you ever pre-cooked your ground beef crumbles in the crockpot? I got the idea from a friend and posted the procedure on Recipezaar:

I would love to do this, however I have a fairly small freezer (well okay, and one down the road at my MIL,) so I guess I have no excuse.

Really all I can say is thank you for listening to the leading of your heart. God has certainly given you such needed gifts, thank you for sharing them with us. It is so cool to see how God orchestrates His children together…even when they do not actually “know” each other.

I’ll be checking back for sure! We do one month’s of menu planning too-and I’m working on doing more prep ahead of time right now. I hate doing one gigantic shopping trip, but it’s so very worth it!
