As I sit here frantically typing, I realize once again the importance of the simple things in life. Sometimes, I feel like I am swimming against the current, just trying to keep my head above water and this has been one of those weeks.

My motto ever since I began this blog has always been “It’s the Little Things that are the Big Things,” yet as social media and pinterest reach new levels, the simple things are getting thrown to the way side in hopes of bigger, better, flashier and perfection.

As a family tragedy hit our home this week (you can read all about it on my facebook page, where I shared daily), my dear nephew diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor and subsequent surgery this past Friday, I am more committed to this  mantra.

Especially with Valentine’s Day approaching, I don’t want to get caught up with the commercialism of the moment. My desire is to truly live out the Valentine’s Day significance every day.

Sharing encouraging words, life affirming words, of just how special both loved ones and friends are to me every single day, not just at appointed holidays.

Creative, Fun, Family Ideas for Valentine’s Day

I shared a bunch of creative and frugal Valentine’s Day traditions yesterday, and sometimes it’s just a fun little touch that makes a huge difference, such as these heart shaped ice cubes

I love all these cupcakes from BHG because in my mind, I see a world of possibilities for using store bought box made cupcakes, but then personalizing them.

Instead of Be Mine, write a character trait that your child has exhibited that week, like Generosity, Patience (we pray) or Courage. Share with them why you choose that word and bless them.

Life affirming words breath so much into the hearts of our children.

If you want to make something fun and different, my 5 minute Homemade Tootsie Roll recipe, is tons of fun for the kids. They can shape and mold them into fun heart shapes to share.

Don’t miss the truly special moments this week in hopes of a Pinterest Perfect idea. If there’s anything I’ve realized over the last few weeks is that we just never know how much time we have.

Life takes us by surprise and I want to live life with no regrets, and believe it or not, once way we communicate love is through special foods.

It’s amazing to me just how much food makes my older teen guys feel loved. Yes, it’s the little things. 🙂

I know many of you are mixing up some special things for Valetine’s Day. I can’t wait to see what you are making.
