As I sit here frantically typing, I realize once again the importance of the simple things in life. Sometimes, I feel like I am swimming against the current, just trying to keep my head above water and this has been one of those weeks.
My motto ever since I began this blog has always been “It’s the Little Things that are the Big Things,” yet as social media and pinterest reach new levels, the simple things are getting thrown to the way side in hopes of bigger, better, flashier and perfection.
As a family tragedy hit our home this week (you can read all about it on my facebook page,where I shared daily), my dear nephew diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor and subsequent surgery this past Friday, I am more committed to this mantra.
Especially with Valentine’s Day approaching, I don’t want to get caught up with the commercialism of the moment. My desire is to truly live out the Valentine’s Day significance every day.
Sharing encouraging words, life affirming words, of just how special both loved ones and friends are to me every single day, not just at appointed holidays.
One of the ways to do this and still capture Valentine’s special day is to start the day with these special Valentine’s Day Love Muffins. (See the tradition idea there.) Again, it’s not about doing something crazy fancy, it’s about encouraging with words and actions.
My Homemade Banana Bar Recipe is super easy and divine if your desire is to go homemade, but I also have a perfect easy Sour Cream Banana Cake that begins with a box cake mix.
Remember, it’s about making it meaningful, not being stressed. It’s about slowly down to savor the simple.

Instead of Be Mine, write a character trait that your child has exhibited that week, like Generosity, Patience (we pray) or Courage. Share with them why you choose that word and bless them.

It’s amazing to me just how much food makes my older teen guys feel loved. Yes, it’s the little things. 🙂
