Frugal Fashionista: Bring Out the Blue

Pops of Colors make people happy. It’s just a part of our our make up. We are drawn to happy, beautifully vibrant colors, even though we don’t always choose to display them in our homes or wear them as part of our wardrobe.
I wonder why that is? Why don’t we make bold statements in our color palette if we enjoy them so much elsewhere?
Many of you have shared that you stick to neutrals, and I wear a lot of those colors myself, but there’s just something about changing it up and incorporating color to drastically change the way I feel during the day.
These “pops of color” blue shoes and shirt below symbolize some of my favorite colors ever.
I collect vintage aprons and adore pretty aprons in blue.
My table runner is a beautiful turquoise blue.
I collect turquoise mason jars, and even shared 50 ideas for using them, and just last week, I welcomed my 90’s wood hutch into this decade by transforming it with a similarly breathtaking blue. It’s completed and dressed up with all it’s pretty dishes, and as I sit across from it right now, I just can’t help but smile.
In fact, Pablo Picasso put it well when he said, “Why do two colors, put one next to the other, sing? Can one really explain this? No. Just as one can never learn how to paint.”
When I walk into my “new to me kitchen,” I want to sing. This colors just brings out a light heartedness in me, but I will correct him by saying, you can all definitely learn to paint (furniture and walls, that is.)
I’d like to think that when you find an article of clothing that just has that favorite pop of color, you might feel the same way, although admittedly, I did not sing when I put on this shirt. Cocoa Chanel responds simply on incorporating color into our wardrobe, “The best color in the whole world, is the one that looks good, on you!”
This outfit is nothing fancy, but the colors just make me happy. I could paint my walls in it (oh wait, I did) and I would LOVE to reupholster a chair in the same material. Wouldn’t that be fun?
What I love about unique shirts like this one is that it can easily be dressed up or down. Paired with casual jean shorts, it can be a casual run errands kind of day, but since I am wearing dressier earrings with it, I could easily swap out the shorts and I’d be ready for a night on the town.
One of my frugal fashion shopping trips is to always look for unique sleeves. What may seem like an ordinary shirt on the hanger may have hidden flare that you are missing because you didn’t catch the detail in the sleeve. Yes, I look like I have wings doing this, but I wanted you to see how cool the sleeve are on this shirt.
And sometimes, it’s just fun to remember why I am laughing in certain pictures. While my son was snapping this photo, our other son was searching for something to eat (right behind me), and questioned, “Mom, why in the world do you have the painting roller in the fridge?”
“Ah yes, my dear, one of those special painting tricks.”
Now getting back to my point – jump on those special fashion finds with colors and styles that make you happy.
You probably will have to pay more than a dollar for them, but if it’s an article of clothing that you love, the investment is worth it for a piece that you will wear for years to come.
Have you had any fun finds lately?
I’d love to hear about them. That makes me happy.
Are you new to my Frugal Fashionista series ?
Find out how I dress in designer clothes for less. Yes, for mere pennies on the dollar, my entire outfit is less than $20, and did I mention…the majority of it second hand?
