If there’s one staple in our home that I am never, ever, without, it’s Baking Soda.
Since most of you tuning in today for Tasty Tuesday certainly have a fondness for Baking Soda in all things sweets, treats and baked goods, I know you understand why it’s a staple.
We love our easy, homemade baking powder biscuits that have been a fun “Cooking with the Kids” recipe for years.
Yet honestly, baking soda is a staple in our home for much, much more than baking. It’s a staple for nearly every single cleaning task that occurs in our home. It’s frugal, natural, it has no harsh odors and just plain works wonders.
I guess I assumed that everyone knew that by adding just a tad of water to baking soda and making a paste out of it, it becomes a “miracle cleaner,” but I found that not to be true.
Last week, I had an orientation at our home for the home school group that I direct. I was serving a bright pink punch (with way too much dye) and it was slowing dripping out of the dispenser causing stains on my white counter. As I wiped it up, a friend knew that it was bad news for my counter. I had no fear. Baking soda came to the rescue and it got the stain right out. She could not believe that just that little paste could conquer such a large stain.
That’s just one example of how we use baking soda on a daily basis. I was asked to switch out my old products for Baking Soda. Well, that can’t happen because I buy baking soda in bulk and so there’s nothing to change out. I wouldn’t be without it, and in the next post, I’ll share the many uses that I have found for this miracle product over the years.
I’m going to put together a list of the TOP 50 ways to use baking soda and I can’t wait to hear about your favorite uses.>
I can’t wait to get my Back to School Time meal plan inspiration with all your great recipes.

I use baking soda in baking quite frequently, but I must admit that I have never used it for cleaning. I am moving towards a more natural approach to cleaning lately, so I can’t wait to add baking soda to my routine. Thanks for the tip!
It is my favorite thing to clean my stovetop! I ruined my last stovetop by using abrasive cleaners to get the grime off. Not anymore! Baking soda is strong enough to make is sparkle without leaving a scratch!
And I have to say one other thing it’s great for…heartburn! A little dissolved in water, gulp it down (because it tastes terrible!) and heartburn is gone almost instantly, and won’t come back for days! Which is great, because I get a LOT of heartburn! Works MUCH better than any over-the-counter antacid meds!
I use it instead of shampoo. Made the switch about 3 years ago, and my wavy hair has done SO much better…less frizz {and this in SC and TX!} and more definition. Plus, I can go longer between cuts because the ends don’t split and dry out nearly as quickly.
And…
…it’s dirt cheap. :o)
I had liquid from cooking on the stove top that was blackened and IMPOSSIBLE to get out. Used baking soda with a little water on a paper towel and voila, it was gone!!!! So excited!!! Good stuff:)
It does a great job cleaning out clogged drains.
I pour baking soda to fill the drain hole, pour in a couple cups of vinegar and let it bubble. Leave sit for a time (30 minutes?) and let the fizzy reaction do it’s work then flush with hot water. Repeat if necessary.
I do this regularly to keep the drains clear – monthly, if I remember.
yes, i love using baking soda and i look forward to hearing your many other uses for it! But the biscuit recipe calls for baking powder, not soda, correct?
Oh yes, now I am laughing!!! That is why I even wrote BAKING POWDER biscuits in the post. I don’t think I had my coffee yet. 😉
@Jen, I always get the 2 confused. lol!
I always keep baking soda in the house as well. It has so many uses from removing stains to shampoo. Awesome post!
Will watch for your list of ways to use baking soda – and thanks for this linkup!

Jellyfish! I keep a little container of white vinegar + a baggie of baking soda in my beach bag. A local EMT told me about it, and sure enough, it works. More than once, I’ve come to the aid of a stranger with a screaming child with just those two little things. It really works!
Baking Soda, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways….
My absolute favorite non-cooking use is scrubbing my tub. I’m positive baking soda does a much better job than anything else, even the Shaklee paste that I have.
Thanks for hosting! I’m looking forward to your list of baking soda uses. 🙂
I use it to clean away grim and on my tub. Works like a charm!
