YES to hoses and mud (even tho it makes a horrific mess)
YES to ice cream before bedtime.
YES to streaking after bathtime
YES to the 3 year old who wants to wear her footie P.J's to the supermarket.

I too want to be a YEs Mom more! I just try to pick my battles.

I am a "NO" mom all the way…only on the stuff that really matters, though.

Great post! My parents raised us with the philosophy of saying yes to as much as they could because there would be plenty of things they would need to say no to. It was a great way to grow up. Kelly

I really enjoyed reading this post…. what an encouragement for a mom of 3 little ones, who sometimes wonders what in the world God was thinking when he gave them to me…Thanks for helping sort out some of the mess of "good" motherhood. Peace.

I think saying yes to the wigs was fine. It was a great memory for them.

You just have to find that delicate balance, which only happens with God's help.

I don't believe in saying yes to a child just so they will like you. People need to realize that saying yes to everything they want isn't the answer. That just creates lots of problems later on. My dad did that and now my brother doesn't want to be around him because he never bothered to set boundaries.

He respects my mom because she loves him enough to tell him no. My generation thinks they should get everything they want when they want it. What happened to having values? Great post.

The other night it was ungodly hot and humid and everything in my kitchen required some degree of cooking. IT was too hot to turn an oven on or stand over a hot stove. When I asked the girls what they wanted for dinner that was cool, they asked for ice cream.

I said yes.

This is the stress, overwhelmedness, & pure stresss of my exsistance right now. My 3 teens & I are in CONSTANT conflict about this very thing. I was just asking God & my husband why… Why can't I just be ok w/ saying no & not care about their disrespectful & angry reaction? After a while I get in this pit of depression because it seems like I never get a break from it. Sorry. Its just intresting to read this on the heels oof my crying out to God about this VERY thing!! Thanks for the perspective! LA
